Stopping by to say hi and a question for those who have been around
Hey Ya'll! Just stopping by to say hello. Gregg and I are still crusing around in Florida, turning heads on the daily commute due to love, hate, disgust, or interest. Everyone we pull up to next to at a stop light be it a Mustang or an Elantra just feels the urge to give it the beans while Gregg just slowly coasts along. Ive retired him as a highway warrior and am focusing more on gas mileage and longevity, as I am starting to realize he may be the only HHR like him that I get my hands on. By the time he is ready to retire, or just cant hang on to life anymore, I know there wont be another car like him available. Thinking about this, I had a question for those of you who have been around longer than I've been walking the earth (26 years old). From your younger days, not including the car you have NOW, what was a car or cars that you previously owned that you felt youd never let go of, never replace, yet here you are years in the future without said car. This question didnt work with my father, who responded that he "still has them", referring to his 1968 Mustang and his 1969 Mercury Cyclone 428 SCJ, both of which he will never part with, and are just sitting out rusted to oblivion in the Vermont winters. Anyway, just food for thought, and a simply inquiry from a youngin' whos only had three cars in his lifetime (so far).

Oh that's easy; there are two such vehicles.
1963 Ford Thunderbird convertible. Sold it and the new owner destroyed it within 3 months.
1986 Dodge Omni GLHS #155. Sold it, do not know if it is still with us.
Of course, my first car every guy should have kept his first car. a 1968 Buick Skylark that I purchased in 1974 with 46K miles on it for $900. Burgandy coupe with the L6 in it. Great car. I sold it to my brother when I bought a 1970 Skylark Convertible. My brother proceeded to dent, crease or crunch every panel and bumper except the driver's door and the roof.
My first 442 is another one. A 1970 442 W29 coupe with a vinyl top and a bench seat freshly painted factory Aspen green but with several coats of clear pearl over it. Bought it with the cash gifts from my first wedding. The car was not one of the flashy ones with the fiberglass hood and stripes so it was a sleeper and boy was it fast. There was a guy in a 1970 Nova with 350/350 Vette motor in my hometown that I frustrated time and again when he couldn't beat me.
So far after all the cars that have passed thru my hands , my favourite is Oldblue, anything previous was fast but a gas hog and didn’t corner or stop as well as I’d like.
I loved my 1962 Jaguar XKE, but no head room , ( I’m 6’5” )
I loved my last vehicle before the HHR but 8 MPG city and maybe 18 MPG highway was hard on my wallet.
My 1981 VW Rabbit diesel got 61 MPG, but took a life time to pass a transport truck and forget any hills , just no power.
My ‘Cuda was fun but handled terrible, my fault, dropping in that heavy 440 Big Block, same with my 1966 Mercury Meteor S33, not so great stopping or turning with a 428 CJ Interceptor engine between the frame rails.
So, it’s Oldblue the HHR.
1958 Volvo PV444 - first car - drove the wheels off it - 1600CC 85 hp. Ring broke - new rings, bearings and anew piston - done in car. a year later engine knock - found con rod slightly bent - tore out engine - rods straightened, along with a total rebuild in dad's garage.
Almost bought a newer one a few years ago, but naw, had too many vehicles at the time to do them all justice.
I thought I was going to miss our HHR, but am ok with it - however, I do look at some of the panels from time to time. LOL

My first was my 57 Chevy 210, 327/365 hp., engine was out of a Corvette that I bought in 1968 for $350. Swapped it for 56 T-Bird with a 283/power glide.
Second was my 69 Chevelle SS that I installed a 427 that was from a 67 Corvette, bought that for $1400 and had the engine in my garage. Broke a R/S rear axle flange going thru a turn at 60(?) put me in a hospital for four day's.
That will be my 1997 Toyota land cruisers. I absolutely loved that thing. Built like a tank. But I had to sell it once gas prices started to go up like crazy. Still missing that truck. Hopefully will get another one , one day, as a second vehicle.
