Hello everyone, can anyone give me instructions on changing my timing chain?

The intake and exhaust marks on the camshaft sprockets line up on the exhaust stroke but are backwards on the compression stroke. Is this normal? I have been searching and thinking about this for days....

It is a 2007 with the 2.2L and no VVT.

Thank you, I've seen that post before but it says compression stroke, not exhaust. My feeling is that the sprockets and chain will only line up one way and when it does, the engine is timed correctly.

Can you comment on that? I'm positive I'm right but need the confirmation from someone who knows more than I do.

The timing chain colored links line up with the marks on the gears. The rear is the exhaust cam and the front is the intake cam. Both cam gears have both marks because they are interchangeable.

Set up the rear cam to exhaust and the front to the intake mark.

 

Thanks Lucky, can I physically remove the cams to make them line up? Right now that seems like the easiest way to do it.

 

I'm not sure what you mean by removing the cams. You can rotate them to the position the timing marks to the correct link on the chain.

 

Or, if you had read the directions or watched the youtube procedure you would have run out and got the sprocket holder tool J 43655. I think you could pick one up for under $300.

And note that the crank shaft mark does not make any sense, it lines to the chain not the other way around.
