The SS per Chevy claim is 155 MPH. I have not seen where anyone here has done it.

It did do a 8 min lap of the Ring at Germany. Any car able to do a time in the 8 min range is considered respectable.

Part of the Video was on Youtube.

The 2.2 and 2.4 I would expect are limited due to tires with low speed ratings. GM often stops cars with our V or Z rated tires at 110 MPH.

If the limiter is removed 120 MPH or a little more may be possible?

I don't think the speed rating of the tires is the issue there. V rated tires are for up to 149mph, and Z rated is the best you can get for a specific tire. Cars like Corvettes and Ferraris use Z rated tires.

GM has had a policy to limit cars to the speed of the tires. My GTP came with the V rated tires and was not limited since top speed was right at 140 MPH.

The lesser tired GTP were limited to 125 MPH on U rated tires.

Most other GM cars with S rated tires are often limited to 110 MPH since the tires are limited to 112 MPH.

Most people never go this fast and car companys can get cheaper tires on the cars without getting taken to court for not providing proper tires for the speed of the car. a V rated tire on a non turbo HHR or Cobalt would add a cost not needed by 97% to the owners.

I even have seen where there have been complaints that some tire dealers anymore will not put on lessor tires in some cased because they are affraid of legal issues.

It is dumb but that is the kind of world we live in now.

In the case of the HHR I don't think the 2.2 would go much over the 110 anyway but policy is policy.

Where I work we get a lot of people wanting the limiters removed on modified vehicles. many of the aftermarket programers will do so.

I have heard the GM trucks now are only doing 90 to 100MPH in many cases.

I have also replaced my V rated tires with H on the GTP since the wife is not do the speeds they are needed. THe H tires wear better and are cheaper but still a good qulity tire.

Remind me... I'll have no issue doing it with my SS. I'll even do it with GPS to check against speedo. Just not today.

A friend with a 2.2 automatic HHR got it up to 110 once and he said the governor didn't kick in. He didn't push it any harder than that so he doesn't know if it will go any faster. The late '90s Cavalier with the 2.2 OHV and 3 speed automatic is governed at 108 MPH.

It was mentioned on here long ago that shifting the auto into"I" locks out overdrive and bypasses the governor.
