After having the same problem for 5 years, I replaced the intake and exhaust camshaft sensors on my 2006 HHR ( 5 minute job. $50 Amazon) . Its been a year now and no more abs, engine, traction lights coming on intermediately. No more hard shifting either. All you need is a 10 mm socket and ratchet.

Valves not sensors. Common mistake.

GM OEM parts are
Intake solenoid part number 12679099
Exhaust solenoid part number 12679100

DORMAN #917-216 for exhaust and #917-215 for intake

These are recommended and proven parts other brands are out there but you pay your money and take your chances.

Cylinder 4 misfire and traction light

Hello everyone:) always a pleasure to come visit. Thank you all in advance for helping me out with yet another problem with my 2006 LT. So now this is what my HHR is doing. When I start it, there is no traction control light. If I either let it sit idling, or if I am stopped in traffic for too long, the traction control light comes on. When this happens, the transmission hard shifts. I have to shut the car off and restart. When I restart the car, the traction control light goes out. Then the car runs and drives fine. But man if I let it idle in my driveway for more than 5 minutes that pesky traction control light comes back on. Any ideas? In order for me to keep the traction control light out, I need to keep the car in motion. Very strange phenomena and I have no idea why on Earth this would be going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)
My '06 2.4L does this also. It throws a "cylinder 4 misfire" code, and with a diagnostic read, #4 is misfiring. I replaced all four plugs; all four coils; intake manifold gaskets, but it still throws the check engine light and cylinder 4 misfire code. I see below, camshaft sensors may be my next move.

Yes. I also put a new injector in #4. It shows it numerically on the scanner missing, as a 2 or an 8 or a 4, or a zero, while running.

I'm going to swap injectors to see if that identifies the problem.
