I will be picking up my HHR2LT today. I had line x undercoating on my truck. Is there any reason why I should not do undercoating. Also if I get undercoating what areas should I point out that should not be coated. I plan on keeping my HHR a very long time. Thanks in advance

 

i do know why you would need to do that . it might add weight to the car and reduce your mpg . you have to rember the you are covered by your warranty for rust through coverage for 6 years and 100,000 miles . that is just for sheet metal

 

GM, in their Owners Manual, recommends not to do it. You could void warranties on certain portions/items of your vehicle.

 

Undercoating if done wrong, can have the opposite of the intended effect. if cracks develop in the coating, water (and salt) can enter and actually be held against the metal, not allowed to dry and accelerate corrosion.

 

I have used a metal protector called LPS 3, on my last 3 vehichles. It is soft waxey honey looking liquid that goes on wet and dries to a semi-waxey finish that always stays somewhat soft. I spray the underside of the vehicle with it using pump spray bottles. It does a very good job and is easy to apply. I don't do any inside cavities, like the doors. It is made for storing of metal machinery outside. It says it should last for about 2 years, but it has lasted a lot longer than that on the cars. I bought a 5 gallon pail of it about 20 years ago, did 4 vehicles with it and still have about 2 gallons left.

Undercoating, like paint protection(Do they still offer this?), is a dealer ripoff! And if you've restored a frame off car, you'll cuss undercoating til the day you die!!!

 

I got the new electronic corrosion protection. They test OK and there are several brands. Even the guys at two guys garage endorses them.
