I'm in the same boat you're in Capt. I can't get anywhere close to 30 mpg either. But I have to agree w/ GM about being cautious on a new release following the SSR disaster.
Ever since '65 there has been a DEMAND for the Mustang. When Ford threatened to discontinue the Stang for the Probe, Ford never heard the end of it till it promised NOT to discontinue the Stang. As far as Chrylser goes, they brought the HEMI back several years ago, and the SRT team has been around for years. So whether I wanted to make a street racer or not, I knew that the performance parts would take a while.

Ford made sure to provide it's top aftermarket companies CAD drawings and whatever they needed to produce parts. I am starting to think there isn't going to be much aftermarket support for our vehicle. Let's face it, it's a good looking little ecobox with a tiny engine and crappy FWD. Thank god I have my Malibu so I actually have a powerful car. The HHR has been on the market for almost a year now and we don't even have a CAI for our vehicle.

My HHR weighs in at 3155lbs, so yes - you are right; the HHR is lighter.
Oh, and I just went back and changed my original post
The Ranger's V6 only had 145hp!
That makes the HHR's 172hp 4cyl look pretty good!
Still...I'd love to have the 210hp my wife's Accord 4cyl has!
