Tell 'em to lose the $590 destination charge. They never paid that to anyone.

Well went and looked at 3 HHR's today...the Dark Silver one...(just drove it around the lot), a Sunburst Orange one and a Silverstone.

I go to say the only interior color I would accept in an HHR is the Ebony. The Silverstone had the gray cloth and with 3 miles on it the plastic where you get in and out of the car was all marked up by a careless whoever with black soles....yuck.....the Sunburst Orange was nice but I'd like to get one with a newer build date.....7/06 is still a 2006 to me and many of the first year bugs may still be present (not a knock on 2006 owners..not at all) Not to mention the check engine light was on for the whole test drive(salesman said it was from starting the cars up and just moving them a few feet and then shutting them down.....what?????? Pretty decent shimmy on the highway also was not comforting) Other than that it was a decent price (16.3k) but they lowballed me 2K on my trade.

The Dark Silver one was the most expensive at 17057 and they would not budge from that price...they did however offer me the most for my trade(only 200 upside down) I think they still have wiggle room to come down in price a few hundred more. The Silverstone was invoice minus 500 with rebates so 2500 off Supplier price...didn't get my trade evaluated as I had no intention of buying the car anyways. Probably would have lowballed me to make up on that 500 under invoice.

That leads me to believe that the Dark Silver people have a few hundred more they could hack off but some of you who have been in the industry would know more than I would on that.

Funny all three dealers were complaining about how GM's policies are screwing the dealer and it is now impossible for them to make any money on GM cars.

PS I really didn't notice too much of a difference btween the Pioneer upgrade radio and the regular one...300 bucks right there I wish wasn't on the DS

The dealers are full of what the cows leave in those New Hampshire barns...if you know what I mean.

Here's a loaded HHR at McMulkin in Nashua.

Oh yes..I DO know exactly what you mean..older fella was the sales guy for the Orange HHR...."what will it take for you to walk out today with that HHR?"

"Ummm...give it to me for free???" That didn't work.

He was defintely old school salesman but also a super nice guy...lots of cliches I haven't heard since the 70's-80's when buying a car

Dealers also get plenty of holdbacks and factory to dealer incentives, so don't buy the BS that they're not making money. The dealer actually winds up making more money on the car than GM does.

Finessing the deal is an art. When you need another $200 to make the deal, ask for $600. Work 'em 'till you get what YOU want. If they throw out, "what's it going to take?"--you got 'em by the balls. It's the end of the month, they're desperate to sell cars because winter and spring time are soft, and you can get what you want if you're willing to take advantage of their situation.

I even got a phone call the other day from a dealer I bought a car from five years ago. A "courtesy" call reminding me that the special rebates were ending this weekend and they wanted to make sure that I didn't miss out on a great deal.

If $200 dollars is keeping you from buying a car you like, then may be you shouldn't be buying a car at all.

Depends, you could spend time trying to save $200 and actually lose more. Time is money.

We spent $250 more for ours than the premiere edition... some may think that was crazy.. but we liked ours better... so that's what we went with. We didn't want to... but didn't want to look forever & drive all over either... so it was worth it to us to cut our losses & bite the bullet.:twothumbs
