What about a Manual Transmission

Looking to buy a HHR with 5 speed but they are hard to find. Are they usuallly lower priced. Does the trans work well? Shift smooth? Presently driving Saturn Coupe with 5 speed and it is fun to drive.

The regular HHR and the SS version have different 5 speeds.
Mine being a SS, the 5 speed can be a little clunky feeling until you get used to it.
Not sure if you're considering a SS, but just letting you know there is a difference.

If you are looking at a regular LS or LT HHR, then I would definitely go with the 5 speed. My wife has the auto and I have a manual and I can tell you from first hand experience that the manual is much more fun to drive! My wife is replacing her currently totalled automatic HHR with a manual transmission one as soon as we find a decent one.

2009 LS 2.2 5 speed bought new. 85K now and absolutely no issues with the drive line including probably 15K towing a 1000# trailer. Fun to drive too.

Have a 2007 2.2 five speed bought new. Transmission works flawlessly, have had no issues with it or the clutch. Much prefer it to the automatic HHR's I have driven.
