It's usually recommended to replace the tires in sets of 4...
perhaps that may just happen. I didn’t have control on how the previous owner decided to replace them and now I have 2 tires that have about 98% (10/32) tread with the vent spews still intact.
Rear tires I assume were likely on the front before, and they have only about 4/32 left, which is pretty shot.
Its just really hard for me to consider disposing of 2 tires that are virtually new and they won’t fit on my Saturn. I would’ve preferred to replace all 4 at the same time. I will sell off the other 2 on Craigslist if I decide to get rims. I don’t care for the 215/55’s on it, and might just get a set of 215/60’s because I like the taller tires as they take the potholes much better, and we have plenty of those in Hawaii, aside from my gravel street. In that case, the 4 will be purchased.

planetrj, we’ll need some pictures of your 1LT , after all those updates. Today a trip to Fort Erie, Ontario for a coffee and then dinner with the mother in law. She loves to get out and see things along the Niagara River parkway. It’s a bone chilling 17 degrees F out there , so maybe we’ll get her a hot chocolate !

The only way I would only get two tires is if I could get an exact match, and I mean exact match for the two good ones. Brand, model and size....
Same "size" tire from the same company but a different model will be different dimensions. The way tire manufacturers change their product line every six months makes this difficult. The manufacturers know this and it's probably part of the decision to change the line, although they would never admit that. A lot of people end up replacing all four relatively new tires after damaging one tire because an exact match can't be found.
Having a "mis-matched set" of tires doesn't mean you would immediately break something or wreak the car, but it was designed for all four corners matching. Having ABS makes it more critical.
To be honest, I miss the days of having "Bigs and Littles" on my street machines....
I just finished a 45 minute work out , I changed the rear shocks on the BlackSwan, the OEM are leaking at the top seal of the shock body . The bolts came out very easily, I squirted some penetrating oil on the threads earlier and let them soak, then backed them out by hand to avoid stripping the threads on them , I then cleaned up the threads with a thread chaser, lubed them with anti cease silver from Permatex.
Then when I wound them back into the bolt holes , I took a minute and looked up the torque values in our library, Thanks whopper for putting that thread together.
I torqued them in to place , reinstalled the wheels, torqued the lugnuts , took a 20 minute drive and retorqued the lugnuts . A much smoother ride. And now off for that drive with the mother in law and Sweetie!
Blue- so now you have the 18's on ? We need pics..
Today took our recent addition (cat) back to the Vet we got him from, he was beating up on our older cat, when we were not watching.
So, cute as he was, he is gone. Next time starting with babies.

I know I know. I keep forgetting to take outside pics, and when I got it, I never thought that I would do anything much to it, but yeah, it's a little addicting when viewing the scope of things, inspecting (what I call the wounded bird syndrome)... seeing the general tweaks and fixes that it needs to fly. Basically, it just needs the things that an average person would do at 125k, me thinks, though I've always treated all my cars quite a bit more carefully than someone who can go out and buy another car without blinking an eye. I don't have that kind of mentality.
I just had a friend that moved to Quebec City, so I've been hearing about your bone chills! Definitely Hot Chocolate is in order... maybe "Irish it up" a little That will warm her up a bit more than just cocoa with milk. The closest I've been that way was Mackinac Island when I was a kid. Of course, I've never forgotten the fudge. I know it's not 'that' close to you, but relatively speaking, it's a stone's throw compared to being the 9500km I am from you myself. lol Enjoy and STAY WARM! It's around 25C in the daytime now, and 17C at night here. Just perfect for me.

I agree with you all the way about matching. I am still trying to figure out the whole TPMS thing. I am guessing that either the previous owner changed out the tires himself, or he let the sensors die and never replaced them but one. I only have the L F TPMS sensor reading and the rest aren't registering. I attempted both the Fob 1-2-3-4 Lighted reset, but since the dash gives me LF 33 RF -- LR -- RR -- I'm guessing the sensors are just dead. I'm okay with that since it's looking like I'm going to be getting rims anyway. I've discovered the caps on it must not be for HHR, because the chrome spoke covers the valve stem. I removed all the caps then attempted to reprogram them with the handheld RF tool (EL-50448), but nothing happened. The horn never honked, and the LF turn signal remained lit.
My brother used to have a '69 Camaro with fatties on the back and Cragar Rims...Those were some HEAVY rims, but hey, that was the 80's.
Sorry, Sleeper, but no the 18’s are in the basement, waiting until my traditional summer wheels install in April 15th or there abouts. Today it’s 35 degrees F and climbing to a high of 45, so it timing chain day, and new VVT solenoids.

How many miles is a good # to change the timing chain?
I know with my Saturn, I changed it every 120k miles, but I remember something about a chain is good up to 150k?
I’m just changing mine in the BlackSwan, at 120,499 miles, it developed a rattle and a CEL code P0014 so, I popped off the valve cover and saw this limp chain
Notice how the chain drops down between the cam sprockets, might as well save a damaged engine and change it.
So a new timing chain and balance shaft chain, of course guides and tensioner sand the Melling front guide upper bolt .
I’m taking my time, spend 4 hours today and tomorrow I’ll finish it up.
So, to answer your question, 110,000 to 120,000 miles.
