What Did You Do To Your HHR Today?
Evening al ! My HHR has run away from me
One of my son's borrowed my HHR for a week or as his car is in the shop. It will not get worked on till Thursday! He got it with a full tank so will see how much I have when he gives it back lol

I just went through my notes, I changed the timing and balance shaft chains on Feb 25, 2020 and had to reuse the tensioner, I installed a new tensioner on May 5 2020, and as I recall I just changed the tensioner, and apparently it is not always going to deploy unless you remove the valve cover and deploy it manually, a soft tipped instrument and a gentle whack with a mallet or hammer.
I must have been lucky installing a new tensioner in Sweeties’03 Sunfire and my ‘07 HHR. So from now on, deploy the tensioner manually.
I’m so lucky the chain didn’t break or skip several teeth and destroy my engine!
Time to relax and watch Svengoolie!

If this COVID stuff is done, let me know when and where you’re going to run, Cayuga? Perhaps?
Today , I investigate an engine noise, I believe to be the water pump, but it could be something else, it’s almost 50 F degrees here today so at least I won’t freeze! My garage isn’t insulated or heated!
It’s apart and yes the water pump is making a noise when I spin the impeller by hand. But the more alarming part is that the timing chain tensioner did not deploy and the tensioner arm has damaged plastic on it , I can see from the top.

i just built a dual pod for my daily. I just ordered an oem LHU block heater and a universal oil pan heater that im going to install asap. Hopefully it’ll be warm as soon as i turn it on in the winter
Might see at, at the track this season!
Today, cleaned up the pile of tools used to change the water pump and thermostat housing and thermostat, then checked a few things to do, wrenched in the coolant temperature sensor, it required a 19 mm deep socket and I used an adapter from 1/2 to 3/8 drive and my swivel head spark plug ratchet with the longer handle for leverage.
I double checked all hose clamps. No driving just getting to reassemble when parts arrive from RockAuto!

It seems to me that just cranking the engine would impart plenty of force on the timing chain tensioner to initiate it. The risk of course is that it jumps time in the process, but if the design was optimal, there would not be enough slack for that to happen, especially with new, unworn sprockets. Even if that’s the case, it’s an obvious easy precaution to initiate the tensioner manually. You either got away with it or never had anything to worry about in the first place.

I understood that just winding in the new style tensioner and torquing it to 55 ft/lbs was sufficient, then it would deploy when you started the engine, that may be true, however the tensioner I just removed was not deployed. As such, I am simply recommending, for piece of mind , manually deploy your new tensioner.
Today is a putter and tinker day, clean the valve cover and front engine cover, fix wire loom holders for the coils and fuel injectors, those plastic tab things were broken long before I bought the HHR

Well, it's not really about the car ...
Today I signed up for the Covid-19 vaccination. Several days ago, several hundred thousand Sputnik V were delivered to the city. First, doctors and teachers were vaccinated, now everyone.
I thought about doing or not doing, we are a safe region and the probability of getting infected is not great.
And then I decided: what the hell, it's free anyway. On December 22, I'm going to the doctor.
