The slot in the old keys was determined to be part of the problem. Yep, I remember. Seems the weight of your other keys, plus your fob, plus your bottle opener, plus your pepper spray cannister, plus your nail clippers, plus your lucky rabbit's foot, hanging off-center, might provide enuff force to turn off the ignition if you hit a really big bump. (Off course that would never happen if the original switch detents wouldn't have been so wimpy.) Exactly.
They are supposed to remind you of what the owners manual already says; to only insert the key keep all that other crap in your pocket. But they don't bother because they know no one is going to do that. I've been doing that since about 2012 & keeping everything else in my pocket. Guess I'm an exception.. LOL
I talked the dealer into letting me keep my old keys. I didn't want mine. You know, in case I got locked out of the car. Huh, I was told the old keys are no longer usable due to reprogramming. Probably just bs'ing me.
Also, I needed a couple new chip keys. The cheapest ones available on Ebay has slots. They worked great! Cool. I'm ok with the FREE ones the recall provided.
Good luck on keeping the old keys.. I never tried tho.
Yep the driver door only has a key hole. I tell ya my reluctance was due to: I hate dealerships, then I was reading a decade ago some had issues with new keys.
I'm just happy it was painless. Glad to get out from under it. Well, so far so good anyhow, I'll say that.. In a week or so I will put the steering column plug under it back in..
I left it out, just in case I couldn't turn mine off..
Today is PICC line flush and chemo bottle disconnect. But first we are going to an exercise program for cancer patients. Start building up my muscle mass!
Recent acquisition 08 LT panel with SS front fascia, which is busted up. I did some online searching to replace the front bumper cover, and they apparently have one that ships 'folded' and one that ships 'not folded' but the shipping is as much as the part! I've read some horror stories about the folded ones having to be worked with a heat gun, and still look funky. Any help or advice? Also, where can I get a replacement rear bowtie (mine is nasty looking weathered)? thanks in advance

Welcome & Congrats on the new LT. I used self adhesive colored vinyl for my bowties. See image. Vinyl overlay from over 11 years ago, but still looking good.

It is from over 12 years ago, but is for Ignition switch, cylinder & new keys. So 2 actually. Does your key have only 1 small hole on it for key ring or long slot ? The 1st is the new key, which could mean yours has already had the :Fix",.

the one and only key I got with it has the slot, so it's probably an original. I was told that it could be upgraded with a remote (a relief since I can only unlock the car from the drivers door, and then run around to open my wife's door), so I ordered a key fob and extra key from Amazon. My locksmith wasn't able to program the fob OR the key, but he had the proper chip key blank on his truck, which he cut and programmed. It doesn't have the Chevy logo on it, but it's a small hole, interestingly. I'll call a dealer Monday with my VIN to see if there's an open recall. Thanks for the info
This weekend is the 100 mile garage sale, so I'm staying off the streets! too many people looking for that rare find and not paying attention to their driving, pulling out from non-parking spots, or just plain stopping in the middle of the street. Not worth the aggravation.
