Hopefully it is a rescue day for my HHR... Starter is ready to be picked up, the the drive to where it is parked and install the starter....Then a drive th where my son is working, leave the HHR, and drive my Land Rover home. Hopefully the starter is the issue but he tells me it has acted up a few times by not turning over, waited a bit and then it would start..sounds like a starter, or relay. My experience with starters is they usually act like this so I am going with the odds. I wasn't able to try the "whack it' test since I wasn't around it when it acted up.
As nervous as I am about him driving my HHR, I'm even more nervous about him driving my 1999 Land Rover Discovery 1. I put a lot more work in making that one run, but it has not had much driving in the last few years. It is a LOT more expensive to fix when something goes wrong.
Today Sweetie has an appointment, then we are going to pickup some coffee for a friends birthday gift this Saturday. Maybe have a cup while we’re there!
went to pick up starter from salvage yard ($30 copared to $230 new) and asked if they tried itto see if iy worked OK. they went to remove the wires they cut instead ifv unbolting them and broke off the stud. Glad t was them and not me! Now I have to wait for them to pull another one. Maybe they will test it this time. How do you gurantee something if you don't know it worked before you sold it (used parts) Last starter got from them looked brand new (for 2016 jeep) and this one looked like it had been soaking in water for a bit. So I asked if it was tested. Glad I asked!!
Took a bit to get the starter in , darn kid has never done it before, took off the stud nut going from the solenoid to the starter instead of the battery stud... then couldn't find the top bolt. had to find it by fell. then after it came out, my younger son got there He was able to get the top bolt in and tighten everything up, Tapped the key and it started right up!! except the battery light was on. Pulled the battery and got a new one. Guess they don't last 6 years in Minnesota (more like 3 if you're lucky) Got back with the new battery and some fool (me) shut the rear hatch... it won't open when the battery is removed..... The skinny younger son slid in there from the back seat (luckily all the covers were loose) and got the battery in far enough to connect the terminals and open the hatch. Started right up with no battery light!! Only thing left is to repair damage to door, fender, and skirt from my oldest son putting the jack stand under the skirt (not far enough) and lowering the jack, pushing the skirt into the fender and door (drovers side) so I did a little pounding to get things aligned enough to work ( a few dents) Anyhow... it is running and he swore to me the oil is getting changed this week!!
And I drove my Land Rover home, by way of the gas station ($75 of gas later) yes she is a thirsty pig!! 46 degrees and 5 hours travel and wrenchin time.
*** UPDATE**** car is sitting on the road, no electrical power, and it is snowing. Sheriff dep't has called saying it needs to get moved or it will be impounded... this is why I don't let people borrow my cars!!!
Fond both my 'helpers' overlooked the orange wire that goes up to the alternator, without that, it doesn't charge the battery.
finally got the oil changed, guy at the Quick Oil Change place as I drove in said I love these PT CRISERS!! I almost drove back out. but oil was waaay overdue to be changed so I educated him on the difference of a PT and an HHR... I doubt he will make that mistake again..

Got to be 10 to 12 year’s ago.
I had a guide viewer in my 2007 LS but Sweetie didn’t like that, it distracted her while driving.
I made my own, found a fresnel lens on ebay for way cheaper and cut two little 'wings' that sit on either side of the frit around the rearview... works great!
just gotta make sure you cut the correct part of the fresnel, so it skews up instead of down!
and I FINALLY got my new headlamps (and front LED markers) put in today! let there be light!!... my original lamps were SO hazed
I’m just headed out to shop for groceries and stop for a coffee with Sweetie! Not much going on, it’s snowing so to cold to change tires on my summer rims. The new shoes arrived last week and the temperature dropped to mid 20’s brrr!
Today Sweetie and I are going for a drive in the countryside looking for pussiewillows, for her parents graves.
Then we’re going to look at new appliances for our kitchen and laundry room. Should be fun! Once I get over the sticker shock!! 😮
