What kind of car did you give up for your HHR?
That was pretty much the same with ours. It was great when things were all working and miserable when they weren't. Parts were a bear to get a hold of and they cost an arm and a leg since most them were specific to the Northstar and could only be obtained through GM. The final straw was when the half case seal went out. There are no rebuild kits available for the Northstar, that I know of.
I know that story well. Mine nearly ruined me!!
Kept the T-Bird
Because I would have gotten near el zilcho trading in the '96 T-Bird, I kept it to fix up for when my daughter gets her license in a couple of years. Solid motor, but you can't close the driver's side door from the inside, needs new exhaust, will need new tires, etc. etc. Needless to say, I'm MUCH happier - and stylin - now!
This is what I traded in to get my SS:

84 Chev Estate Wagon my Mother in Law got for $350.00 in 1996. Was from Ontario where salt is like water- everywhere. We actually got a $1,000.00 deduction for putting it in a Canadian G M program called Car Heaven. Went to the wreckers and we also got a charitable donation tax credit! Plus the car is just great. Went to Whitehorse and put 4,000 miles on it last summer and it carried the four of us and our camping gear plus wedding attire as my daughter was getting married. It's just over a year in our family and had 45 miles on it at purchase. Totally happy!
