I think that led works pretty well. It lights the lower part of the center console, including the window controls, which on a 2007 are on the lower part of the center console. I agree the map light are pretty useless, in fact those, as well as the dome lights really don't provide much light!

I was playing around with the lights the other day. I had always thought that the little LED was on because the Headlights were on, but it also goes on when only the parking lights are on. This was disconcerting because I was in traffic at night when I was playing with the switch, so I drove several miles in the dark with only parking lights

I just wish I had in my 08 SS the 09 dome light with the sun roof. Also foot well lights like my GMC used to have.

The HHR interior lights or lack of for the most are what GM did to hold the cost down on our cars.

I checked tonight, and that's exactly what it is. Lights up when the headlights are on. Don't think other responders understood where the light is -- nowhere near the dash or console. It's a tiny LED light in the headliner between the two sun visors, just above the rear-view mirror.

Where did you get the replacement LED? I'd like to get an Orange one.

Actually, it comes on when the dash lights are on. If you lights are on during the day (rain) the dash lights might not be on if it's bright enough out.
