Where do I get another key for my 2006 HHR?

Is it true that the dealer is the only place to get one? How hard is it to reprogram another key. Are the blanks available on line? How much money does a new key cost?

You can get a blank online or on EBay, but the dealer will have to program it.

Keys you can program; they just have to be cut to work in the ignition. It's the fobs you need the dealer (actually his Tech II) for.

1. insert your present key, start and shut off the engine.
2. remove key.
3. insert new key within 30 seconds and turn on the ignition.
4. wait 10 seconds, then start your engine.
Your new key should now be programmed.
(Thanks, Tom)

Do all HHR's have a chip in the Key? Really? Mine does not look like it does, but I'm a NOOBIE! LOL My HHR is a 2008 LS.

Look closely at your key(s). Just where the key comes out of the plastic there should be a + on the ket itself. Mine is an 07 ls and it is passlocked.

Far as I know all the HHR's use chiped keys. As far as reprograming the key, check your owners manual. As far as the fob, either the dealer, or some locksmiths will have the equipment to do it for you, but I'm not sure how much you would save. The equipment is not inexpensive. Worth checking out, though.

Didn't know that. I knew you could do that with older models, but heard the newer ones couldn't be done that way. Learn something new. I have a couple extra fobs that will work with mine if I every lose to damage one. Perks to leasing cars. Customer finds extra set of keys 6 months after car is sold at auction..... Just looks for matching P/N on the back.

All HHR's, 06-11 as well as any GM vehicle with the PASS-Key III+ system can be programmed that way. As Laco said, it's in the owners manual.

I've never needed another key so I haven't looked into it at all. I've got one that's hardly been used at all....
