Will Baseplate Installation Void New Car Warrantee?

I have an '08 SS that I will be installing baseplates on so that I can tow it behind my motorhome (for those who don't know, baseplates are tow tabs that are vehicle specific and allow a tow bar to be hooked up to the vehicle for towing behind another vehicle).

Does anyone know if there would be any issues with factory warrantee service if the vehicle has been modified in this manner? The manual states on Pp 4-33 and 4-34 that you can tow the vehicle 4 wheels down, but does not mention anything about associated hardware (except not to use a dolly).

Only parts that have been damaged as the result of installation of aftermarket parts will not be covered.

What mr. Crafty said. If it mounts to the frame rails they are no longer covered if they fail. Same goes for bumper if it mounts to it. Anything you would drill a hole in to mount they can say it effected the structural rigidity if the part fails.

Another option may be the little trailers you pull the front tires up on to tow. It wont kick your miles up on the odometer when towing. For me it is easier to pull up on and strap down than to line up the stupid hitch on the front of those cars. They are always hidden and below sight so it takes 4 or 5 times getting out to look to see how much further to pull up. It also turns better than the rigid mount systems.
Blessings

Or if your transmission burns up due to improper towing on the ground.

As Per The 2008 HHR Owner's Manual:

Nothing is stated in the manual about hardware except for the rule about not using a tow dolly. I was just concerned if I were to have an unrelated issue, the dealer would cite the installation of a towing system that is required to perform dinghy towing.

Dolly Towing
Your vehicle cannot be dolly towed, but can be dinghy
towed. See “Dinghy Towing” earlier in this section.

Notice:
Dolly towing your vehicle may cause
damage because of reduced ground clearance.
Always tow your vehicle using the dinghy towing
procedure listed in this section or put your vehicle
on a flatbed truck.

Dinghy Towing
You may dinghy tow your vehicle from the front following
these steps:
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Turn the ignition key to ACC to unlock the steering
wheel.
3. Shift your transmission to NEUTRAL (N).

4. Release the parking brake.

To prevent the battery from draining while the vehicle is
being towed, remove the following fuse from the floor
console fuse block: 8 (Ignition Switch, PASS-Key

® III+).
See

Floor Console Fuse Block on page 5-120 for
more information.
Remember to reinstall the fuse once you have reached
your destination.
Notice:

If you exceed 65 mph (105 km/h) while
towing your vehicle, it could be damaged. Never
exceed 65 mph (105 km/h) while towing your vehicle.
Notice:

Towing your vehicle from the rear could
damage it. Also, repairs would not be covered by
the warranty. Never have your vehicle towed from
the rear.

Interested in where you would purchase base plate? I look at roadmaster, blue ox not
offered. The odometer doesn"t register when the 8 fuse is pulled. I bought the 08
to tow flat automatic with the roadmaster plate and tow bar.

You should still be fully covered, except for any damage done during installation. I installed a Blue Ox base plate on my 2007 HHR, and use a Blue Ox tow bar, with no problems. I also installed US Gear brakes, so to activate, it only needs to be plugged in. Mine is a five speed, and with the #8 fuse pulled, mileage does not register while its towed. Chevrolet says, warrantee is not affected if you flat tow.

Blue Ox and Roadmaster does not make baseplates for the HHR SS. The only mfg who does is Demco (not Remco). It's P/N 9518231. Already researched this part. Just was asking about the GM warrantee. Thanks for looking out for me though.
