Extended warrantee

Extended warrantee
When I bought my 2006 HHR I bought the 7 year/70,000 extended warrantee.I believe I have broken even on what I paid. That warrantee is ending next month and my dealer is offering me a new 3 year/24,000 mile extended warrantee. The cost is about $2,000. My current mileage is 54,000.
My basic question is should I buy it? I realize life is a crap shoot but during the next 24,000 miles should I expect to encounter $2,000 worth of repair costs? I will not be doing the repairs. The extended warrantee is the same plan I had initially, GM's Major Guard, which has proven to cover most problems.

Not just thru your dealer.

Usually an extended warranty is a "comfort" expense. In other words, what are you comfortable with.
Now mentioning that, I would ask what repairs were done under the previous warranty....that really enters into the decision matrix. If you had consistent problems I would suggest that some problems may continue. If you had one or two, and obviously were major and required the majority of the warranty cost....maybe not.
I'm mentioning this, because it seems that if you have consistent problems they probably will continue. The '06's were an oddlot....you either had a good one (with little problems) or a bad one w(with many problems).
I have an '06 also. When I purchased my car new, I considered the extended warranty because it was a first year vehicle. Ultimately I decided against it. And really, I have no regrets because the few problems I had were repaired under the normal warranty and the one outside of the warranty (sunroof windscreen repair) I repaired myself for about $20. The dealer wanted something like $350 at the time.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide.
Oh, and I have just about the same mileage as you.....54,200.

@uncle.zook, in my personal opinion, if my budget could afford the cost, I would do it just for the peace of mind. I honestly, believe these vehicles are dependable, but I like knowing if something were to go wrong, I would have this to assist me with the expenses.
