Windshield replacement

Hi,

I have to replace the windshield on my 2008 2.4 HHR. I noticed that Rockauto lists two options:

"VARIOUS MFR DW01637Y Includes Attachment" with "Green Tint/Blue Shade"or just "Green Tint"

- As both options are cheaper than the original GM part: are there any drawbacks regarding quality etc. when going for this non-GM windshield?

- Has anyone got a windshield with the "Blue Shade" option? As the windshield is rather small, doesn't the blue shade come down into the driver's view?

Any inputs much appreciated.

The shade comes down just 4 inches, I'm 6'5" tall and it doesn't obstruct my view, I have the blue tint.

Thanks, Oldblue. Is this a third party windshield you have and not the GM original?

Yes, the GM was twice the price.

Almost all of the windshields available in the US are made in China now. They all claim "original equipment", because they meet the manufacturers specifications.

There is very little difference in the color of the shade. You can hardly notice it's there.

I have had it replaced recently. I went for the Rockauto option with "Blue Shade".
The brand I got is Fuyao. To my non-expert eye the windshield looks identical to the previous installed GM original (except for the shade of course).

I think I might get one of those word decals and put it across the windshield. It will read "THE ROCK MAGNET" XD

I haven't had to replace the windshield on my HHR yet, but when I had one replaced with a non GM windshield on another car I definitely noticed a difference. It had distortion that the original glass didn't. It wasn't bad, but when you look to the side it looked wavy. Since then I have requested GM parts when getting windshields replaced. My insurance covers the cost, but if you don't specify GM parts they will just put in the cheapest part available. If I had to pay for the windshield I might live with a bit of distortion. Good luck
