Worth the money?

Hi HHRers!

I'm fairly new to HHR ownership, but I'm looking to expand. I currently have an '06 LT with just over 230K on the clock and so far so good. No issues and seems fine despite the mileage. The thing is I really wanted a panel but settled for the window. I now have a pending sale for an '07 LS Panel with 240K (I seem to keep landing in that area). It's a former fleet vehicle (no other owners) and seems to be reasonably well maintained, with no apparent issues. I'm concerned that the timing chain has not been replaced (no death rattles though). They're looking for $2K but will take $1.5K. I seemed to have gotten lucky with my first high mileage rig, but am I pushing my luck on the panel? I won't be dogging this truck as I have several other cars besides the other HHR as alternates. All things considered should I pull the trigger and is there anything besides the obvious high mileage situation I should be terrified of? Thanks.

$1500 for a panel seems to be a steal to me. In SoCal, the the cheapest panels always have a salvage pink slip, 200,000 miles and fetch $3500. If you want a panel, buy it! The rear doors are worth $800

Buy it and change the timing chain, it's not that hard or expensive

Which company had it? Do they have service records, or maybe tell you who did the service and give permission.

FYI
I went ahead and bought the panel. YAY! It seems to be in great shape except for a slight interior odor. Runs great (maybe better than my window). I might unload the window if this one pans out over the next few weeks/months. Okay, backing up (visibility) is a chore but I have another vehicle that is a challenge also in this arena so no major deal. Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I'm thinking about customizing it into a wheeled version of this....

Congrats on your purchase.

Set your side mirrors so you Juuust have to tilt your head to see your vehicle. Your vehicle will never hit you. No need to see it during the normal course of driving. It will help lessen giving someone a blindspot surprise.

If you aren't already get in the habit of backing into parking spots .

Smell is prob dog or water or both. You'll get used to looking harder when pulling into traffic especially on the right, helps if you cut the wheel right as much as possible to see whats over in that big blind spot. Actually makes you a better driver.

I would think there is a star trek laser proton sensor you can add on top of the roof 8-)
