The thing that gets me is I typically drive between 70 - 80mph EVERY DAY... although I'm easy to step into the pedal when accelerating.
I *have* hit 34mpg (with A/C on!!!), but it did seem like the best mileage (to date) surfaced till around 7K - 8K miles.
Interesting... but NO complaints

I just hit my first 1'000 miles and getting around 25mpg 2LT 2.4 auto. One day my wife drove the HHR to her sisters about a 40ml round trip and then to work the next day about a 30ml round trip. My MPG was reading 26mpg before she left BUT when I drove it next it was reading 19mpg. Needless to say she pays no attention to the way her driving habits affect MPG.
I have just over 1600 kilometers (more or less 1000 miles) on mine and getting between 24 and 26, mostly non-highway, short trips (under 10 miles). I have the 2.4L and I am playing around with grades of gas and so far the higher octane (91) is giving poorer mileage than the lower (87). Gonna try midgrade next (89).
But in any case the worst mileage so far as per DIC is 24.7 MPG. Best has been 26.7.
Since mileage improves a bit once well broken in, I expect that to improve.

I am jumping on and writing I am so in Love with this car ( truck) I just picked up my paperwork yesterday and it says a truck. I wnt on a 198 mile trip today and averaged 35.3 miles per gallon that was following a semi there and back and no air conditioner on. One thing I noticed and after a month I already have 1500 miles on it is that with the 2.4 and the air on you get about 3 to 4 less miles per gallon average.
I don't think I'm getting good mileage at all with my 2.4L- the readout says 15.9mpg.
But I only have 220 miles on it, and it says my average speed is 15mph.
Little old lady indeed. It's the traffic I tell you
If I go faster longer I'll see an improvement, right?
