XM Feature??

No one has been able to answer this question so maybe on the forum I can get some info?

I have a 2006 HHR that did not come with XM radio service. Though when I press the Cat button on my radio, on the display it says XM feature, what is this for?? is it for after market xm? is it for the kits that I have seen to hook up XM? Or does it just do nothing???

Any ideas
Thanks

It means that the unit you have CAN have xm, you just have to subscribe and have it activated. You need nothing else.

I doubt you have XM already installed; just your radio is XM ready. You will need to buy the factory or aftermarket XM kit (search on ebay). Both will connect to your radio and then you will need to subscribe. I just sold my aftermarket kit I installed and removed from my 2006 HHR to another forum member; as my new HHR had the XM already installed. There are multiple threads on adding the XM on this forum... so just do a search and they will pop up.

Best wishes,

David

If you have a 2006 w the CAT button, xm was installed at the factory. It came new with three free months of service. GM does not install xm ready unit from the factory in HHRs w/o the hardware to play it

I have an 07 2LT with all the bells and whistles and the XM stuff--but no XM. My PAL comes through on the XM1 channel, but that's it.

I thought it was standard only on 08's and up as I don't have the little chingas thingy on the back for the receiver.

So as far as I know, having XM capability on the radio does not mean you have it or it was installed at the factory--only that it is XM-ready.

afs9, you are correct.

The radio with the CAT button is XM capable, but doesn't mean that the factory XM module was ordered or installed. Been there, done that. That is why I ordered an aftermarket kit and bought a factory XM antenna for my 2006. I since bought a 2008 that had the XM factory installed, and sold the one I installed and removed from my 2006.

So I don't mean to dispute the report by GDZHHR, but based on personal experience and information from other forum members, the CAT key doesn't guarantee your vehicle has XM. I might suggest that bluehhrjay send an email to CHEVYMGR, he might look at the build sheet to see if it did have XM installed from the factory. Cause it MIGHT have XM already installed.

Best regards

Here is the link to the aftermarket kit I bought off of EBay and installed. I know there is a factory kit too, but some have said it was harder to install in the passenger side rear panel. Plus you would need to install the factory type XM antenna. If I am not mistaken, even if your HHR has OnStar, but NO XM, you will also need to buy an antenna that has both XM and OnStar. I had actually bought a factory antenna off of EBay, then I bought a custom cable at the recommendation of a forum member, then drilled holes (sucessfully; but nonetheless stressful) dropped the headliner down and installed the factory antenna in the exact location as the factory antenna. (I went to a dealer and measured one with the factory setup. It was different location than one of the fourm members recommended, so I'm glad I went and looked for myself. I would have hated to drill holes in the wrong location. The aftermarket kit I bought had a magnetic antenna, but I preferred to have the factory antenna.

Hope this helps if you DON'T have the factory XM option. If you prefer the factory kit, I can search the forums, etc and give you that kit number.

Have a great day
