Best way to tell if your HHR is equiped w/ XM is to change the "band" button to find XM.

Get over it. The person already said that the radio said "xm feature" but you didn't notice that and I guess that's why you said that I was wrong. If I'm not mistaken, it was not an option on with the premium system in 2006.

If your unit, in 2006 at least and I think 2007 too, has the CAT button, then it IS equiped with xm. That does not mean it is activated.

Finding a Category (CAT) Station
CAT (Category):
The CAT button is used to find XM™
stations when the radio is in the XM™ mode. To find
XM™ channels within a desired category, perform
the following:
1. Press the BAND button until the XM™ frequency is
displayed. Press the CAT button to display the
category labels on the radio display. Continue
pressing the CAT button until the desired category
name is displayed.
2. Press either of the two buttons below the desired
category label to immediately tune to the first

XM™ station associated with that category.
3. Rotate the tune knob, press the buttons below the
right or left arrows displayed, or press the right or
left SEEK buttons to go to the next or previous
XM™ station within the selected category.
4. To exit the category search mode, press the
FAV button or BAND button to display your
favorites again.
Undesired XM™ categories can be removed through
the setup menu. To remove an undesired category,
perform the following:
1. Press the MENU button to display the radio
setup menu.
2. Press the pushbutton located below the XM CAT
label.
3. Rotate the tune knob to display the category you
want removed.
4. Press the pushbutton located under the Remove
label until the category name along with the word
Removed appears on the display.
5. Repeat the steps to remove more categories.
Removed categories can be restored by pressing the
pushbutton under the Add label when a removed
category is displayed or by pressing the pushbutton
under the Restore All label.
The radio will not allow you to remove or add categories
while the vehicle is moving faster than five MPH
(eight KmH).

Never said you were wrong.

Looking at my dealer lit for the 06 HHR, you have to have the upgraded radio AND the 7 speaker system. Then the XM can be added on top of that.

And I find it really funny that in your quote from the manual, it states change the band to XM first...........just as I suggested.

My HHR has a CAT button and no XM module. When you press the button it says "XM Feature". So you can have a radio that is XM ready, but your car may not be equipped with the XM module.

Now, if you have the XM module that is not activated and the same radio that I have I don't know if you see "XM Feature" when you press the CAT button, but I don't know this for sure since I don't have an XM module. Someone with with an XM equipped vehicle that does not have a current subscription could tell you this.

I have a 2006 with the premium stereo and cat button. My car did not come with Xm factory but it was xm ready. I purchased the GM kit from gmpartsdirect.com and it ran about $200 shipped, it comes with a new onstar/xm antenna so you will not need to buy a new one plus you get 3 months free.

XM module and no subscription yields the following when tuned to XM band.....

Station 0.........XM id number
Station 1.........XM preview
Station 247......Emergency Alert/travel/weather
