yet another "what is this? thread

I have one of my own "what is this?"
found this little black tape bound gadget stuck to rh taillight harness. my guess is some sort of electronic rust prevention. any ideas?

Looks kind of like it may be some sort of ballast for LED lights or trailer connections.

That is the device that NSA is experimenting with to monitor the activities of innocent Canadian citizens.


Actually, I have no idea. Looks like aftermarket though.

Has the car ever had a hitch installed? Looks like an aftermarket adapter for a trailer wiring harness.

its actually 2 little boxes taped together. the only markings on 1 says"sv1". I didn't pull the harness apart to see how its wired in. I'm not sure if it ever had a hitch but I don't think so; its a 5 speed car and I have never seen a trailer plug anywhere. i'll let you know if I ever investigate further. ????
