Warranty work ? I thought all this talk was about a recall situation. There would be no deductible with recall or factory warranty work.

I'm getting more confused the more I read.

IKR!?! My blood is BOILING right now. No, my problem isn't a recall. GM recalled the power steering motor in several vehicles, but not the 2006-2008 HHRs. Instead, they are giving a lifetime warranty on the PS motor because they have no clue how many are effected.

My PS went out on Sunday and when I found the GM media and NHTSA articles about 2006-2008 HHR being given a lifetime warranty, I went straight to the dealer and they knew nothing about it. I showed them the articles and they didn't care one bit. If nothing was listed in the system under the VIN, then they ain't worried about it.

Anywho, I just walked into the dealer to get my car and ask the service gal's opinion on whether I should pay the $100 deductible or just buy the part and do it myself. She said, "I'd pay the $100 because you're getting free service and part from GM even though you aren't covered." I said, according to these articles I am covered. She proceeds, "Sir, you're just pulling things from online." Boy did I get ANGRY *HULK SMASH*!!

The service manager came in and was super nice and said most likely there will be a recall eventually and I'll be able to claim reimbursement, which made me feel a little better.

As I was writing this, I was called by an executive at GM who said she was going to contact the dealer and get me taken care of completely. Most likely by reimbursement of the deductible. I'm feeling much better now. I hope nobody has to experience what I did. I'm the most laid-back person ever and it takes a lot to get me going. At times, I had adrenaline tears going from being so upset. Good luck to everyone who tries to get their warranty replacement!

So, what is their answer for the $100 deductible ? If it's not covered as they say, then there would be no such thing as a deductible. A deductible would only apply for an aftermarket warranty or an extended warranty claim(not exactly sure on the 2nd one). Since yours is a 06, then no factory coverage remains.
Definitely something fishy sounding.

Fwiw. That part probably cost them about $65-75. I think they're still getting their money. Won't take the tech 15 mins to swap the part out.

From what the dealer service manager said, he had to contact his district rep to offer me something. The $100 is kind of like the extended warranty on some vehicles. So, I guess they were trying to give me something in order to please an angry customer. Like I said, they were jumping up and down to tell me the GM website article was bologna.

Does the GM executive have a name and title? Does the GM executive have an explanation for the failure to acknowledge official US government filings? Does the GM executive have an explanation for the failure to acknowledge official GM press releases?

She sent me a personal email with her name, direct number/extension and email. She simply said that she was very sorry this wasn't addressed properly and was unsure why the customer care division was not honoring the GM press release or the Government filings.

I expressed to her that after reading several posts on this site, I am most certainly not alone in having issues getting my warranty taken care of. Hopefully they communicate with all their staff the importance of this matter. Not standing behind it certainly makes the brand continue to look bad along with all the recall mess.

Six Months later and I still haven't heard anything from GM or anyone else concerning any extended warranty on our "06? I'm wondering too if it would even cover the replacement motor I had to buy myself back in April, or just the "Original Equipment Motor"?

Angry 2010 HHR Power Steering Motor Recall

Lucky me! I must be the only 2010 HHR owner that does not qualify for the Power Steering Motor Recall OR the Lifetime Warranty. Imagine that!

On Thursday, 10-9-14, I brought my HHR to AutoNation Chevy Gilbert - 3215 South Auto Way, Gilbert, AZ 85297 for the Ignition Switch Recall work. In addition, I wanted some general maintenance done along with a few quirks looked at. One of the issues I have been having is with the power steering cutting out. The service consultant called me and I was told the power steering motor needed to be replaced and the parts quote was $600 (there were 2 parts that needed to be replaced - power steering motor and some sort of bracket/mount???) I did some research to check on the parts cost I was quoted and found out that there is a recall AND/OR a lifetime warranty on the power steering motors. I called the service consultant back and LO AND BEHOLD my HHR vin # does NOT have a power steering motor recall. HOLY CRAP! Of the hundreds of thousands of HHRs out there that have the EXACT SAME issue, I am one lucky lady to have an HHR that doesn't seem to fall under the recall OR the lifetime warranty replacement!! Yes, I have checked my VIN # and there is NO recall for the power steering motor. The only 2 recalls that come up are for the ignition switch recalls.

I'm really looking forward to forking over $1300.00 for the power steering motor work, an oil change, replace brake pads, fix a tail light, the ignition switch recall work, some work they need to repair due to them damage they did when they threw tires into the back of the HHR, and check the left back driver tire sensor. I can't wait to review that bill!

I called GM and filed a report. I am waiting for a return call from a sr. advisor. I will be calling the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to file a complaint with them. I did receive a call back from AutoNation Gilbert earlier today after he received an email regarding my call and I informed him the vehicle is still with them and I will be in Monday to pay the $1,300 bill and drop off the loaner car. I also told him how fortunate I am to have the ONLY VEHICLE in the US that does not have the power steering motor recall. He went on to explain that according to what they researched that the only 2 recalls for the vin were for the ignition switch. No KIDDING!? As if I haven't checked that myself. This will be the LAST time I bring my HHR to the dealership as this is now the SECOND time I have been screwed with an inflated bill and poor customer service. The extended warranty that was purchased with the vehicle is no longer in effect and I can now go to a mechanic that I choose and I won't have to deal with the inflated costs and poor customer service of a dealership service center.

My rant is over.

Welcome to the site, sorry about the upset, I suggest you tell them to not replace the PS motor and have it replaced else where! The motors are available online, and relatively easy to replace with simple tools. Just a suggestion
