Starts without a key.
Starts without a key.
Hello, Im new here. And for the following reason.
I've looked all over the web, but no help.
So the cat started having an issue were once you remove the key it starts back up. And by that I mean at any given time it seems. It starts rigjt after you remove the key, and sometimes minutes later. I wouldof thought the immobilizer would stop it from.soing so, but it still starts and runa by itself.
What have I done to "fix" it?
-replaced the ifnition switch twice. That didnt do anything.
-replaced ignition housing(from a junked cobalt) nothing.
I'm lost on what to do now.

Welcome to the site, let’s start with basics, what are the codes if any, just the code itself.
have you tightened those 4 bolts in the under hood fuse box?
are all the fuses and relays pushed firmly into their places in both the under hood and interior fuse panels?

What year is the car? How many owners? Did any of them install after market remote start or fobs or theft alarm?
Is there a fob laying around where it could get pressed on, like between seat cushions or in your pocket? Have you disabled remote start in the DIC? Is this new behavior? What was done just before it started? Is there any after market equipment installed? Did you get the ignition recall parts? Does? it start after the doors are locked

Did this start shortly after the radio install? What modules did you use for the radio?
If there is an option in the personalization menu to enable/disable remote start it has remote start from the factory. AP3 does not mean the same thing in 2011.
In order to start the BCM needs to send several messages to the ECM then the ECM needs to send a signal to the starter relay and the run/start relay. The key only sends a "start" signal to the BCM.
My guess is that somehow the wiring to the Retained Accessory Power relay got messed with and is now sending a start signal when it is shutting things like the radio down. If the radio was installed by blindly splicing wires, this is a good possibility.
