08 ss.....issues after road trip

08 hhr ss, bone stock. Roughly 135k miles.

Moved from NE IN to Florida over the weekend, roughly 1000 mile drive. My g/f told me the car "wouldn't go" when entering the freeway, and she was afraid it would stall. No CEL, I couldn't replicate it.

Long story short, after several hundred tense miles we made it. The car seems to hesitate and stumble once or twice under light throttle. More throttle seems to be the answer.

Finally threw code 014 this morning. Think that makes sense?

Yea, sorry. Doing internet on a cell phone sucks

Code was P0014. Looking on this forum led me to the variable cam solenoid as the code, but not any info on driveability symptoms

Using the SEARCH tool at the top of the page quickly gets you to the replacement procedure for the solenoids: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...13-14-a-28779/ - it's a pretty easy job, and not that expensive really.

But check your oil level, and if it is due for an oil change anyways, do them before replacing the solenoid. You can reset the code in the meantime by disconnecting the negative post on the battery for a couple minutes.

The most common symptom other than the CEL coming on is hard (or abrupt) shifting of the auto trans, but you didn't state what trans you have. I havem't heard much feedback for manual trans owners.

Ok, an update.

08 hhr ss, 2.0 turbo, auto, 134000 miles

As you know, I ran across some issues driving down to Florida last week. Symptoms were loss of power, hesitation, and bucking under light throttle.

CEL presented with PO014. I replaced both the intake and cam solenoids, with some minor issues. The intake solenoid actually broke in half while removing.

Shortly after reassembling the car, maybe 5 miles later, it picked up a serious sputtering idle, like it wanted to die.

All connections are tight and corrosion free. Any thoughts?

Did you reset the ECM? Disconnect one side of the battery for a few seconds, and then go from there. If the ECM was compensating for a bad sensor, it will be out of whack with a good one...

Idle is rougher with MAF unplugged. I went back over the intake system, thinking I may have missed something. Found the waste gate controller had a broken vac line. New one is on order, update to follow tomorrow
