Here's what your warranty book states:

General Motors Corporation New Vehicle Limited Warranty
GM will provide for repairs to the vehicle during the warranty period in accordance with the following terms, conditions, and limitations.

What Is Covered
Warranty Applies
This warranty is for GM vehicles registered in the United States and normally operated in the United States or Canada, and is provided to the original and any subsequent owners of the vehicle during the warranty period.

Repairs Covered
The warranty covers repairs to correct any vehicle defect related to materials or workmanship occurring during the warranty period. Needed repairs will be performed using new or remanufactured parts.

No Charge
Warranty repairs, including towing, parts, and labor, will be made at no charge.

Which bulletin and what do you want checked?

A dealer could care less what the cost of a warranty part is. GM pays for them not the dealer.

Before this thread I had not heard of GM reconditioned wheels on an HHR. As I stated above we started sending them back to GM (per their request) around a year ago, so it makes sense that they would be available.

As long as if "reconditioned" means repainted and not rebuilt. There are places out there that rebuild and straighten bent cast wheels; thats a no no. You CAN NOT rebuild or straighten a cast wheel without compromising structural integrity. Fight them for the new one.

Gm wants the wheels back so they can charge the suppliers back

The SS wheels are forged, not cast.
They are much stonger than cast wheels.

You can rebend and repair a Forged wheel but I suspect GM would not mess with the liability of that.

Now if they have damaged or finish problems they are nothing to repair and will not cause any liability issues.

My parts guy says the wheels don't state they are remanufactured, so I don't know what this dealer is getting the OP. A part number of the wheel ordered would help.

really what do you mean nothing to repair. this is not like clear coating a car
sticking to polished alum is a little bit of a trick .stuff like conversion coatings
cause the wheel to lose the luster

If it's a warranty repair isn't it a "wash" for the dealer...doesn't matter if it's reconditioned or new.....I believe GM credits the cost of the part.

If you read your Owner's Manual it also states GM retains the right and MAY use reconditioned parts, on warranty issues.

I stand by my statement. I never stated anything about the mark up or profit.
Maybe my wording was misunderstood. The dealer doesn't care what GM has to pay the dealer for the part on a warranty claim. And yes the parts department pays GMSPO to buy a part and then marks that part up 40% and charges it to GM warranty.

So the parts department would rather sell a NEW wheel which would have more dollars of mark up than a USED wheel which would have less.

Your statement was that the service department was trying to be cheap and save money. That statement is incorrect.

The parts department makes a profit on every warranty part but the service department doesn't make a dime on a warranty part only the labor.
