2.0 question
 
Odds are I will go with a zzp in the end but I wonder.

Another place has offered to sell me a 2.0 with forged pistons and rods for less,

But and this is my concern they are using a used block
I asked if they are overboard and they said no (I know not to thin the sleeves any more)

Are these blocks wearing that well that you can hone them and fit new pistons?

If so, I will just get a block and build my own,

The Ecotec cylinder block is sleeved , that shouldn’t be bored, but new sleeves installed

so , if available you could go to 3.0 litres maybe more , there are companies out there that build these Ecotec engines for desert racing .

The LNF already has forged rods, but cast aluminum pistons.

Depends. But you may want to consider the year of the LNF block you would be using. There were some porosity issues in some of the earlier 2.0 blocks. Do a Google search on "2.0 LNF porosity". (think that's the correct spelling) There's a few interesting articles.
If it was my car, I would be looking at the LHU or LDK.

If there is no scoring on the wall and it doesn't have a ridge or excessive tapper, it can be honed.

But not by much , those steel sleeves in that aluminium block aren’t very thick so if there is a ridge or the bore is worn , you can’t bore the sleeves you have to replace them.
