First you need to ask the right person who can get this info and they have to have the time and courtesy to send it out.

Getting some info from GM is like pulling teeth till you get the right person.

You can't discern this from the info provided.

This is great!Everybody has the rare bird!In 20 years when everything is alt fueled and elect and XM and onstar is nothing but a memory we will all be sitting on a fossil fueled vehicle you probably won't be able to drive for lack of fuel( though that is really questionable). If autos were still in infancy I'd be willing to park one for the long haul, but the times are a changing way to rapidly.I figure at most it may be a museum piece, but the auto makers usually make sure they have the special ones tucked away for that. Now if GM should go under...no telling where that would lead. One can only speculate where this car will stand in the future.Half the folks here will sell out somewhere along the way because of this or that,a few will park em in a quiet place and wait....enjoy them while you can.The Vega was unique in its way, where is it now?The pinto? The way they badge everything SS now..who knows...Some make it some don't.Most of the owners won't be around long enough to realise it,it'llbe up to the younger crowd to keep it going( as long as there is parts, too rare causes problems too,how many parts do you see on the aftermarket shelves?)Just a reality check,sorry...........Oh yeah, save every bolt nut sticker and everything else you removed to add all the goodie parts that are not stock as this will have an effect on it. as for those that painted the interior...oops.

I pray those here will have more sense to understand the HHR SS [while low in volume] is not a rare vehicle.

Rare is like the 1964 Leman's Super Duty that sold this week for almost $300,000 with no engine. It was one of 12 cars built with a lot of factory racing tricks and a high demand by collectors car.

To many try to make rare cars today only to find they made too many with too little demand.

Unless someone out there has a one off factory paint that was used for the Detroit Auto show or the test SS that set the lap at the ring. There is nothing much to set most of our SS apart. Even if you did have a special paint etc it would add little to the value.

So just go out and enjoy your vehicles.

Want to see what happens to rare check out the guys who paid $80,000 for the last ZR-1 Vettes only to sell them now at $25,000 with less than 5,000 mles.

Even the AA5 option means little as they build more every day.

Unfortunately it takes more than being rare to be valuable. The popularity of the old pony/muscle cars, couple with the fact they are now scarce is what inflated their values. The secret of the HHR and the SS model will forever keep it from being a "popular" vehicle and keep it under valued in any aftermarket sale, despite the lack of volumes (which in itself is the result of the lack of demand).

I love the car, think it is a great value and enjoy the fact it is unique, but the resale of an unknown, under appreciated car will always be disappointing.

Value is only what someone is willing to pay for something. You may think your house is worth $100,000 but if can only sell it for $85,000 then that is the true value. Works the same with an automobile.
