2008 HHR SS automatic
2008 HHR SS automatic
Hello everyone- I just joined this forum because I am seriously considering a 2008 HHR SS with the automatic. I know the 5spd. has more power but I am 50 years old and don't enjoy shifting like times past. In the end it comes down to each owners prefference, I prefer the auto. My question is those that have the HHR SS with the automatic, are you pleased with it and is it a dependable tranny. I test drove a 2006 HHR Lt with the 2.4 and it seemed to fly to me, so I can only guess that the SS with the auto having 235 hp would be even more enjoyable. Overall I would like some input on the SS with the automatic and an overall comment on the HHR SS. FYI I am a big Chevy fan, I have a 1964 Corvair Monza Convt. and a 1962 Corvair Monza Wgn. I believe the Corvair was way ahead of its time and really enjoy them and the comments by those who also remember them. That is in part what attracted me to the HHR, it is not a "cookie cutter" type car. It is different, just like the Corairs were. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks again.
First off,
to the site!!! I originally had an automatic 2.2 L HHR and traded it in for an automatic '08 HHR SS. I love it. If the power isn't enough the added bonus is you can get the GM Turbo Upgrade kit that does not affect your warranty and gives you much added power.

Love my automatic 09 SS, but I also got a scooter instead of a real motorcycle 'cause I didn't want to shift! I'm not all that mechanical, but the automatic SS seems to change gears much more efficiently than my past automatic Subarus. Pam
I have an 08 automatic, it has enough power even without the stage kit. but you'll enjoy th stage kit even more.
My remote start sometimes does not work, or it will not extend. the problem is if I don't think it will replicate if I take it to the dealer.

Ditto on the posts above. They are plenty fun to drive stock and you're not giving up any power if you add the turbo upgrade kit. The remote starter is a great plus with the autos too. I've got over 12k on mine now and the tranny is holding up just fine. I'm in my 50s and use mine for daily commuting where it excels. When I want to bang gears I bring out one of the two V-8 Mustangs I own. Works for me!
No problems with my 09 SS. I bought one BECAUSE they offered one w/ an auto tranny (Not much use of my right arm, so I can't "easily" drive stick)! It's a great affordable performance ride; and with or without the Turbo Upgrade (ie Stage Kit) you'll have plenty of power to keep you happy.

I've owned my '09 SS automatic with the Stage I performance kit since last July and love it! I live in Alaska and it runs great even in very cold weather. The only things I have done to it in the past 8 months are 2 oil changes and no troubles with it at all. Right now I love my SS even more because I just paid it off yesterday!
I have also owned 2 Corvairs (both 64 900 monza's) though we sold both of them within the past 2 years. Still have alot of Corvair parts left over.

Welcome to the site. Lots of good info and feedback on here[sometimes you have to read between the lines a bit], and good people.
I have a 09 SS/auto[bought in Aug. 09] and it's rather low mileage[only 3800, so far]], and it's holding up good, even to a little abuse now and then. I have the Trifeca tune[around 300 H.P.] and so far it's handing the extra torque just fine.
I'm a older guy [68] and I perfer the auto[even tho I shift it manually, most of the time], and it's not that far off the mark from a manual trans[auto is a little easier to hook up the tires, and any shortcomnings can be easily addressed].
I think you would really be pleased with a SS, with a auto, so better get one while you can. The grin factor is worth every penny. It's just different enough, to draw some attention, and some ricers are learning than you better not mess with it, for the sake of being embareassed[play on words].
