4 tail lights on my SS

Just wanted to share my tail light mod with everyone. I turned my backup light into tail lights by putting tail light lens on them. Making 4 tail lights. I did this by cutting the lens off a set of tail lights from the backside of the bucket and using a dremel tool to grind away the gray bucket off the back side. I then cut the backup light lens off from the front of the backup light then grinding it until I had it cleaned off to the gray plastic. Then I epoxied the tail light lens to the backup light bucket and reinstalled it. Cut the green wire on the backup light socket and spliced it to the brown running light wire on the tail light. Replaced the backup light bulb with a #194 light bulb ( it has the same wattage as the tail light). If you do this be sure to mark both lens on the top before you cut anything because the lens have to be glued on properly to fit the body properly when you are done. Look at the pic and let me know what you think.
Later Al

I like it, but where are your back up lights now?

I really like the mod. It brings in the lighting arrangements of vintage cars (remember the old Impalas had 3 on each side)? Classy...

I could never do it in my neck of the woods, though. B/U lights are a requirement of the vehicle inspection in my state.

Not the first HHR I've seen this done to, and I'll ask again. Why?

You are asking for trouble.

ALL passenger vehicles sold since the 60's in the USA are required to have white reverse lights in the rear. You'd better get some hooked up.

Otherwise how will people in parking lots know when you are backing up?

Just like your tail lights, reverse lights are there for the safety of other motorists... so please consider that.
