RockAuto lists several alternators for the SS.
Are you the original owner ? If not, then maybe a previous owner changed or modified the plug in.

Welcome to the site! What part number do you have?

Gm part number

20862829

I purchased this one 4 years ago for $72, wow has the price gone up!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007Q1BDPW?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007Q1BDPW?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Looks like 25866023 is correct also.

No , not the original owner. I bought it from the original owner who kept the car in tip top shape with records to show it!
I have seen the correct plug in on an alt. that said it would fit, I ordered it and it was the wrong orientation for the mounting
bolt holes? Even the listings for the alt. on ebay and amazon say that it fits the 2008 HHR SS Turbocharged 2.0 liter. If you are familiar with
the positioning, you know there is No room for anything, it has to be right.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will have to review repair records.

Not sure if you can on the HHR alternators but in my old mechanic days we would just “clock” the housing on alternators.
GM stuff mostly.
The housings were split design. Take out the 4 housing bolts then turn 1 side till the plug- in was orientated to the correct position. Reinsert bolts.

Finally found an alternator with the right plug in installed and all is good now. She is getting a little tired but still running like a bat out of hell! 267K miles! on original motor.

Thanks for asking, I just love that little truck! HaHa
