A factory-installed remote vehicle starter system is included when you order the available four-speed automatic transmission. The system can be used to warm up or cool down your vehicle on cold or hot days. To activate the remote start, just press the button on your key fob. It is effective from up to 200 feet away. You also have the option of disabling remote start via input into the Driver Information Center.

Your HHR or HHR Panel remains locked and secure until you press UNLOCK on your key fob. Simply insert your key in the ignition once inside, and you're all set to go.
Do you own an HHR?. And you know that it works that way.It seems odd that the system would know which to turn on Air or HEAt

I don't own yet, that is why I asked the question. If it knows heat vs. cool, then it must be an automatic temperature control of some sort.

I owned one. You showed the forum what it says on the chevy web sight. I DO NOT think it would turn on the A/C or Heat if it was not on when you turned the car off. I do not think chevy changed that . The web quote from the web chevy web sight is not 100 % clear. Its not a $50,000 car. i am just stating the facts as I know them from owning the first year out

The remote start on the HHR starts the car with the AC/Heater controls in the same position as they were when you turned the car off, as they are manual controls with no control from anywhere but your fingers.
An Acadia, or other more expensive car, WITH AUTOMATIC TEMP CONTROL HVAC, will go to the last temp setting that the remote used to start the car with was at when it was last used. If you are starting your wifes car with your #2 remote(if you have the memory option), that was last used in January, you will be setting the HVAC at the setting YOU last used in January.

sorry for the mis-information. I have auto temp control in both of my vehicles now and I just went out and tested it. I had the a/c totally OFF when I turned off my truck and locked it with the key fob. I then hit the remote start, the truck started and a/c came on blowing high speed and very cold..

Once again, I did not have the a/c on when I turned my truck off. It was OFF. I was using the #1 remote, not the #2. I guess the auto temp control remote start works different than the manual a/c remote start.

So confusing!

Realistically it shouldn't matter all that much. If it is summer you would likely have had the AC on when shutting the car off and it would come back on when starting up. The opposite woould be true in the winter.

If you drive in stop and go traffic, sticks can be work but the auto has too few gears, period. However, even with just four gears, our LS is rated at 30 mpg and after driving her (we have two) premium fuel SRT-10 for a year and a half, my wife wanted mileage. Generally, if someone does not know what trans to get, they should get the auto because if they truly liked sticks, there would not be much of a question. The price difference is also a factor, especially on the base models.
