Confused

OK SS guys, did you ever decide about the underhood insulator?
Not there so motor is more audible? Heat issue? Cheaper?
Now we have another topic, no box and cover on PCM on SS????

I would say it's the heat thing . IMO

SS drivers would be maybe more prone to aggresive driving , So higher engine temps, so they thought it did'nt need a blanket under the hood.

^ Agreed, with the turbo you're going to get higher engine temps under the hood. (BTW Batman, no hood insulation came on my SS! ) I figure that's the easiest explanation; it's either that or in conjunction w/ clearance issues w/ the intercooler hotside pipe when the hood's shut?

Went to the dealer today and ordered a cover. Total price = $10.06. The only reason I want it is for car shows. The polished cover will add a little BLING.
I can remove it after a show.

Picked up the ECM cover from the dealer today. It WILL NOT fit a SS. I did modifided (cut the s--t out of it) and it will work for car shows only.
I'm happy with it.

Hi. I was going to locate a replacement BCM cover just like the one circled in blue, in the photo.
The old cover has a couple of tabs broken off and it doesn't stay in place very well.
So now I'm wondering if my 2LT HHR doesn't really require one unless GM put it there
to shield the heat from the metal hood when the car is parked in the hot sun? - Probably not?

I believe the cover is actually for the TCM. The vehicle pictured above does not have a cover because it has a manual transmission, therefore no TCM.

The member that posted the pic also thought that the ECM was attached to the battery, but it's actually the fuse block. Take information posted long ago in these old threads with a grain of salt, many people did not know what they were talking about at the time. Much has been learned since then.

It covers both the TCM and the ECM, keeps dust and water of sensitive electronics. Would you leave your smartphone or laptop out on the patio?
The BCM is in the cabin next to the passengers left leg, that cover keeps curious fingers and other things out.

At least mine has no insulation from the factory.
my 2010 SS doesn’t have under hood insulation, and I just assumed that someone had removed it.

I’ve thought about adding it. I think it would make the car a bit quieter.
