Belt slipping?

2009 SS A/T bone stock

Whenever I'm at WOT and the car shifts to a higher gear, I get a sound for a half a second that sounds like a belt slipping. I checked my belt, it appears fine and has adequate tension. I'm unsure what a bpv should sound like, I've only ever heard a bov before and this is my first turbo car, could it be that? It happens right when my boost drops, during a gear shift.

Also, I don't get full boost (15-16psi) until about a split second before it does this. Usually throughout the range of a single gear it stays at about 9-11psi and then peaks right before a shift.

Does it sound like a faint windy whistle? If so, its the bov.

It is indeed belt slip. Upgrade to a Goodyear gatorback belt and it will help. When I first switch to the gatorback it did the belt slip thing a few times but since then I haven't heard it at all. Once the gatorback wears in, you shouldn't hear that sound anymore.

Thank you guys, I gotta admit I'm not up to the latest and greatest on turbos to begin with

So belt slip... I'll have to check out the gator back. I'm assuming our cars have a spring loaded tensioner? I haven't checked, but should I go ahead and replace it as well?

I had a Honda passport that screeched like a banchee, don't want that again.

Yes, it's a spring loaded tensioner. Replace it? Lets put it this way, both hhr SS I've owned did this when new (under 10k miles). If you were to replace it I would try an aftermarket part, not OE. But who's to say the aftermarket will be better or worse. I would just try the belt first, let it wear in for a bit.

What does this acronym mean?

Waste Of Time pops to my mind, do you mean Wound Out Tight as in peddle to the metal?

It means Wide Open Throttle, or pedal to the metal (carpet)
