Brake Pads - What do you use?

I am going to replace the pads on the HHR soon and I am looking to get some performance pads. I usually use Hawk pads on my vehicles but they are not available for the HHR. I was looking at these EBC pads from summit but I have never used them before.

I have slotted and drilled rotors with ceramic pads. Its made a huge difference. I am a big advocate of replacing the stock rotors and pads. I have told people to replace them the moment they bought their HHR. After talking to owners, no one knows whether the pads are bad or the rotors are, but the rotors would end up warped, which when not caught in time, caused other problems. I say go for ceramic, the brand doesnt really matter to me.

No this has been hashed thorugh several times and is like discusssing Religion, Politics and Oil.

I have used the Green EBC on the last two brake jobs I have done and love them. Great wear, proformance and low dust. I will either use the red or green on the HHR when it is time.

The EBC have great heat transfer. The break in lining seats in the brakes properly and make for less issues as in many other pads since few people bed them in properly.

EBC uses an Kevlar composite compound from Dupont wit no metal fillers.

I also have never had the brake pulse with the EBS. Most people claim warped rotors when most times it is pad material embeded into the rotor surface.

Hawk is also a good brand but I have not used them so I can not comment on them first hand. I sell a lot of them and have friends who use them and all have been happy.

As for sloted, drilled or dimpled rotors. Don't bother unless you like the look. They are cosmetic only and do not improve braking. Their only real benifits is with cheaper pads it can remove a glaze on them and clean the rotor in a off road use. the fact is the more metalin the rotor you have the better heat sink it makes. You want to absorb the heat remove it from the pads for the best performace. Holes also make for less unsprung weight on a race car which is less of an issue on the street where the added material is more important.

Some may want to disagree with this but check any quality brake company web site and they will state that the holes and slots are cosmetic. Willwood brake and other racing brakes state this so it is not my opionion.

Thanks, I guess I will go with the EBC. I think I am going to paint the calipers while I have everything apart.

I plan to paint mine as well when it is time.

Please read the instructions on the break in and bedding of the EBC brakes. They are just a little different and if you follow their instructions you will get excellent service out of them. Note the red pad is a little more aggresive but has a less dust vs green. Do not use yellow on the street EBC dose not recomend that.
