bringing my SS to the dealer for the first time
bringing my SS to the dealer for the first time
I want to get the brake fix performed, and also have them address my sunroof issue (not opening properly), so I need to bring it to the dealer. I looked in the owner's manual to try and figure out what maintenance service I need at 20K miles.
This is what I was all I going to ask for:
1) Oil and filter change
2) Tire rotation
The chart on page 6-6 only mentions additional service (inspections) after 25K miles. Nothing else is required unless I run the car in city traffic in excess of 90 degree weather, on hills, or as a taxi - none of which is applicable.
So the question is, what services will the dealership try to sell me and for how much?

No pressure!
After I bought my used HHR, I took it to the local Chevy dealer to have him give it the 'once-over' (support your local Chevy dealer!
). He recommended the 18 (or 100 who knows?) point inspection & a tire rotation. He said he would normally do an oil & filter too but I was due for normal change in a few miles anyway so he suggested I wait & bring it back then (I have since done my own oil change, thank you). They also washed my car. I didn't really want this (as I like to hand wash mine) but found out about it after the fact. They were friendly, quick & didn't try to sell me anything
. I was pleasantly surprised

My dealer wanted to set up a check up after 3 months and I never went. So I called a week later to set it up, and told them my list of 4 things I wanted looked at taken care of under warrenty over the phone. The next day when my wife took it in they said something about getting the oil changed. She said no just the warrenty issues. they did not push it anymore and I am assuming the guy over then phone misunderstood what I wanted for the check up. They never pushed anymore or for anything else, but my oil life is still at 55%.
Could it be that dealerships have changed? In years past I would bring my car in for servicing, in which the manual tells you that the vehicle only needs 2-3 things done, and they would try to sell you some type of XX-mile service for several hundreds of dollars.
