One more thing....

It's funny how all-of-a-sudden, the 2008 Corvette is not allowed to be imported into Canada due to the fact that it hasn't been "tested" yet. If I'm not mistaken, the car hasn't really changed since the re-work in '05.

Interesting how that happened over the past year as the CDN dollar hit par...Can someone say "protectionism" for the Canadian dealers....!

Sorry to hijack the thread.....

That's true. They're are also claims about GM not allowing you to utilize your warranty until the car has been in Canada for 6 months. But yet, a local GM dealer was actively searching for a black HHR for me from the US?!!

FYI:
"Sales taxes in the United States are assessed by every state except: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon."

If you're ever seriously interested, (being that you're also from T.O.), go to Delaware or New Hampshire and you'll save a little.

I looked at a few dealers on Transit Road in Buffalo-no deals there! They're p$ssing away their chance to make some $$ by being greedy (at least that was my experience anyway).

This has come up a number of times already. My dealer called when the first SS came in because he knew I was interested. After seeing the $33,000 price I told him I would not pay that and if I were to get an SS I would pick it up from the states. After much thought I decided it really wasn't worth it to import an HHR SS and if I were to go down that route it would be with a Buick Enclave or Infiniti EX or FX.

Chooch, if I'm not mistaken I think you are from Vancouver so it should be pretty easy to pick up a vehicle from Seattle. You should be able to get the car home and get everything taken care of for no more than $2000 (delivery included) over the price at the American dealership. If you don't want to do the work yourself look up an importer, they specialize in that stuff and could probably take care of everything very fast. I know of at least a handleful of people that have imported vehicles in the last year. They have brought up a BMW 335, Infiniti G35 and a Subura wagon and have done it without any problems.

You should look at it from another angle in Canida i beleive you pay all the taxes up front ( ever look at the price of a car mag in canada compared to here)that might have something to do with it also i think after that the car is paid for free and clear

if your paying cash... buy in the u.s.
if you need any kind of financing, the diff in price is made relative in payment do to their ****ty interest rates.
the price diff has been pissing me off for awhile so every car i look into i check both prices.
if you get quotes from an american chev site the payments on financing for the same car are pretty much the same.

it's still a big sham though.
