Speaking of disconnecting the battery to reset the ECM - is it worth doing this to get rid of any conservative settings that have been learned, perhaps due to a bad tank of gas? I know on my old Subaru 2.5RS, the knock sensor was a bit sensitive and the ECM would learn to retard the timing a bit, and it never seemed to unlearn that unless I reset it. I'm sure the SS ECM is more advanced though.

Battery disconnect will not reset any settings other than your clock/radio.

It will clear the block learn fuel trims. But they will re-learn after about 15 miles of driving.
