Control arm rebuild?

I am going to refresh the front suspension on my SS.
I cant decide if i should buy new control arms or if i should rebuild the ones i have.
I am either going to buy moog problem solver control arms, or buy the moog ball joints and a prothane bushing set.

Anyone have advice as to which is the better option for fe5 suspension?

Either will work - it all depends on how much work you want to do. Make sure that the parts fit - as the fe5 uses a different ball joint stub that is not compatible with the other HHR suspensions.

Posting links to the items you are considering would really really help - I did a search for the Moog LCA's, and the ones I found looked like stamped steel rather than the aluminum ones that come stock. Federal-Mogul eCatalog Resource Center But I don't know what you were looking at. I'd pass on stamped steel ones.

Edit: looking at that site, they state that the same struts and ball joints fit all the HHR suspensions - that is totally wrong!!! Buyer beware!

Check the front suspension part numbers in this thread post #2
The FE5 SS LCA's are only available from GM and are not supported by the aftermarket

Will this ball joint work?

Lately the ones people have gotten were incorrect, so rebuild would be best. Moog is listing the wrong ball joint, so I don't know what advice to give.

Those ball joints are for FE1 and FE3 , 2006 to 2011.
The FE5 was only 2008 to 2010 on the SS

What about these ball joints, they specifically list FE5.

More Information for MAS BJ90415

Does it not read as follows: MAS BJ90415 Info Front Lower; w/Aluminum control arms; Sport FE3 or Perf FE5 Suspension (Only 5 Remaining)?

As we have noted above, if it says FE3 or FE5, they are wrong - FE3 and FE5 ball joints are different (the mounting stub is a different size). Take a chance if you wish, but be prepared to send it back. You need to look at GENUINE GM parts for the ball joints.

We have had reports of the GM parts book being wrong, also.

I just checked my older (2016) AllData and Mitchell; neither list ball joints; and AllData has the wrong part number for both LCA, Mitchell has the correct number for the left side, wrong number for right side.

Crate Engineering says that LCA for Cobalt FE5 is the same as HHR FE5. Part numbers 25930725 & 25930724. I am fairly sure of the parts numbers. Don't seem to be any ball joints.

Look at what I found in images from a GoOgle search for "ball joints hhr ss". Those hands look familiar.
