The tstats job is to maintain the temp higher than it's rating. i.e. 180F t-stat 190F normal temp 187F tstat normal temp around 200F.

What's your point? Why would we be interested in a Corvettes normal running temp?

Because someone had said there is no way an HHR SS should run 205 coasting unless it has a problem. So, my point was that I know for a fact on a car that I bought new that it runs 210-220 all the time so I would consider 205 in the HHR normal too.

So, based on your info, the HHR must have a 195 thermostat. Capice?

Huh ?
No. The HHR has a 180 degree F stat.
FYI. My SS runs all day long between 185-192. Even in summer time with the AC on. Only seen it above 200 a couple times when stuck in a traffic jam stoppage.

The Ecotec 4 cylinder doesn't produce half as much heat as a 5.6L high compression V8. A high compression V8 needs to run at a higher temp to stay compatible with EPA rules. ETC.

This seems to be turning into an argument.

My "normal" temp is 194. It very rarely is lower than that, coasting downhill is about the only condition for that.

Going up hill, 205 is to be expected, 210 occasionally. Depends how hard I'm driving it.

Capice, this , the HHR requires a 180 degree thermostat.
Many higher temperature stat will trigger P0128 code, disabling the remote start , and A/C .

No no argument about that, it’s a well documented fact.

Technical Data about DEX-COOOL®

I was just reading through this and figured to add this for record.
  1. I Google searched: dexcool physical properties
  2. I searched within one of the PDF technical Data sheets for the key word of what I was looking for (i.e. years to find info about 'years of shelf-life).
Here's the technical data (article) that I looked at, there were a lot to choose from:https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...BiXOMG0tGN5uPf

But still , the cooling system was designed around 50/50 Dexcool, potable water. My HHR’s have run perfect for 12 years on the stuff. Why try to reinvent the wheel.

I agree Oldblue. I just change it every 3 years or so and don't let it get low (meaning fix any leaks.) Zero problems.

I change mine every 5 years, it does have a 5 year shelf life , so far so good! No corrosion in the rad, water pump or engine or heater core
