Did I ever do something DUMB tonight.....
A few years ago a friend of mine decided to change his own oil. Long long story short - his oil change cost him a new oil pan after he stripped the threads and snapped of the head of the oil plug (yep - turned it the wrong way - and not thinking kept torquing) then in a fit of rage - after getting the oil pan off he kicked and bent the oil pump.
Hasn't changed the oil since. Think he took some anger management classes too.
Don't worry though. It was a POS Datsun 310GX, new at the time though. (remember - those were the ones with reverse where first should be)

Still can't top what my business partner did . . .
His wife was driving around one day . . .
She calls the office, and tells him that the "OIL" light came on . . .
He say, "It's just a stupid dummy light" . . . "It's fine to keep driving!"
5 minutes later, his wife calls again . .
The car died in the middle of the road, and won't start . . .
The car had no oil in it and seized! . . .
Now there's an oops . . .
To further top it off . . the car had over 90,000 mile son it . .
Dealer gets it to run, so what does he do?
Trade it in right away?
No keeps it, and amazingly and few weeks later the car completely dies . . .

lol atleast you didnt do what i did... Well my oil filter is in the exact same spot as you guys, except the fact that there is a supercharger on top of mine.. I have to use a 10" exstension to get at. I was all done switched out the filter got down the road then white smoke everywhere. I was like $%@#&#& so turns out i didnt put the filter back on right spill alll the oil out and who knows what damage there is to the car... but 30kmiles later still runs like a champ
Little bit different "Oops Story". Working on the grease rack at a GM Dealership, changing the oil on a Corvair convertible, while it is in the air I open the door and apply the sticker (remember when they were added to the door jam?). Forgot and left the door open, positioned the hydraulic lift to drop the car walked away to hand in the work order. The open door came down on the counter and when I came back the car was on a 45 degree tilt and just about to flip upside down into the next bay. Caught it just in time and surprisingly no issue with the door fitment. Built strong like tank in those days, but could have been awfully embarrassing.
