The Ruthless Pursuit of Power

That was the object of the Z06 engineering team, when they were
developing the Z06. Sounded really cool...

So, I'm done with wheels/tires/rotors.
And my HHR SS is 100lbs lighter too...

Slicks are it, for 'wrong-wheel-drive', at the track, no ifs ,ands, or butts.
There's no street tire, or drag radial, that will get the job done.
M&H slicks, 23.0" x 8.5" x 15" for automatic HHR SS
M&H slicks, 24.5" x 8.5" x 15" for stick shift HHR SS
No tubes needed on these slick sizes..

Tires for the street, i couldn't find anything that hooked on the street
either. Even drag radials sucked, on the street.
So I went with light weight, good 'riding' all season tires, that ride smooth,
& quiet, & are fun for laying lots of rubber & smoke.

Wheels, it's whatever you like.
Since I was doing the 15" slicks, I went with lightweight Enkei 9.5llb wheels.

Following the lightweight theme, I went with GM 9.5lb Solstice rotors, all around.

With that out of the way, I will now start some serious testing, of different down pipe configurations, at the track.
Stock DP = 18lbs , CIA DP = 9lbs
For the street, & mid 12's at the track, I like the DP that I have been using since late last year. it's a stock DP, with the 2nd cat, bored out 2.75", with a 2.75" perforated piece of tubing then inserted, & tacked in place.
Makes awesome power, on the street, super quiet, & passes emissions, including, the 'feel', to see if it's 'hot', like a cat. But, I'm losing some top end MPH at the track with this DP, so I have a few cats, with different mods done to them, to see if theres, more power to be had at the track, without losing anything on the street...

 

I don't see an aftermarket catted DP in the pic there. That may give you the back pressure u need while having enough flow for better top end performance.

That 2nd cat in the DP, 2nd from the right, is a Random Technology, 100-cell metal matrix core unit, with a 5" body.
I can easily cut it out, & put it in the 1st or 2nd position, of the CIA DP on the right , in the picture.

Also,in one of the stock DPs pictured, I have bored a 2" hole thru each of the factory cats. It should provide enough back pressure, & flow really well on the top end. Don't know the long term effect on the cats.They may collaspe, but have held fine, so far, on some short term, street testing, last year.

i want to make a 4" DP, I think more 'volume', is needed...

 

I guess we have to admit that you appear to have the fastest 1/4 mile et and MPH for a HHR.
I would be curious to see if anyone steps up and proves otherwise.
I am guessing you will be the first into the 11's
I hope to put mine in the 12's after my warranty is up but that is a couple years out.

So congrats once again on the runs and make sure ya keep me a list so I can run a setup similiar to yours down the road.

 

It's a very short list...
1. E47.5 tune, which I have posted for anyone to use.
2. Turbo tech engine mount.
3. K&N intake system.
4. Slicks

I'm kind of jealous that we dont have very many e85 stations near me...I found one but its 15 minutes from my house. E47.5 is simply half E85, half 91/93, correct?

 

So if you had to....and I mean really had to take some street tires to the track what would you get? I'm lost in the tire world and I need 2 fronts soon....these mxm4s are on their death bed! Lol I'm from south Texas winter is non existent and I want some good extreme summer tires or something sticky!

Yes, half & half
1 gallon of 91/93 = 90% gas & 10% Ethanol
1 gallon of E85 = 15% gas & 85% Ethanol
10 + 85 = 95 divided by 2 = 47.5 = E47.5

 

I couldn't even get Drag Radials to work well at the track, or the street,
with 'wrong-wheel-drive...
