DP testing, the Ruthless Pursuit of Power
For all those interested in experimenting with a stock downpipe, I plan on putting my stock manual downpipe up for sale when I get home around Thanksgiving (I'm currently at school in Ohio, the part is at my home in Chicago). I swapped it out for a ZZP catted downpipe about a month ago, at about 40k miles, and haven't had a chance to sell it yet. But I see that KissMy08SS just got rid of his stock one, and I plan to do the same when I can get home and post pics. Just a heads up in case anyone has been looking, I'll post it in the classifieds later in November. Happy modding
So, I go out to my shop, close the door and turn out the lights.
Lay down behind the SS and shine my flashlight into the tailpipe.
What do I see? A solid pipe that runs through the muffler. No holes in mine. I can see past the muffler up to where it makes the first bend.
Guessing that there is more than 2 types of stock mufflers from the factory.
Why do I even need a muffler if there are no holes in the pipe?
Got an answer for this 2005HHRauto? You seem to have the knowledge on this subject, so maybe you could help me out on this. Thanks.
P.S. Mine is a 2010 w/manual.

The holes have to be there, with all the soot that our DI engines make, it's real hard to see them, but they're there...
Well, well. You are right. 2 very small rows on the bottom of the pipe. The square little holes run pretty much the entire length of the muffler. The holes appear to only be about an 1/8" big.
Stuck a long wire with a hook end up there just to make sure they actually were holes.

You also have 2 rows of holes, on the top...
& don't have that nice throttle response, like the single factory DP.
No offense here folks, but I'm seeing very small square holes and nothing on the top of the pipe. Looks nothing like the picture posted.
Just to be sure, we are talking the muffler at the rear bumper?
I'll try to get a picture but doubt it will show up.
