Driving the Dragon
Hey All,
Will post in TN region as well.
Went to the Cobalt Meet this past weekend at US129... Only saw 2 'balts on the road. Many other car clubs were there...Mazda3's, 'vette's, BMW's, and enough bikes to make you see chrome for days!
The wife and I drive this road at least twice a month and we love it. There is actually a less traveled secret road named Happy Valley near 129 that we like better but hey, the dragon's the dragon ya know. This time around I pissed off the Mazda's, got a warning ticket, and squeeled the whole way.
Here are a couple of pics. Shine baby shine!
Chvy Mgr Any of thes pics good enough for a submission?

Yeah we must have been early.. only saw 2 'balts... you can see us early on in all the 129 sites. zeefoto, 129dragon, etc. They kind of know us as we are there every other weekend. 11am-1pm I think. We stopped off a deals gap for about an hour. we never actually found the meet, but we did look. I never went to the cobalt site, just figured we would see everyone eventually.

we are going again this weekend (the earlier you go the less likey you are going to run into a cop) We will take some video from the inside of the SS and post it sometime this weekend. We took video last weekend but it was too jumpy (our mount broke) to post and only a couple of shots came out from inside. The Dragon is great, but there are so much better car roads near the dragon that no-body mentions.... Happy Valley, 4 mile rd, 336, etc. I'll post some vids of this too. The other roads have very little traffic, as they are considered "back roads" and the speed limit is higher on these other roads 35-45mph. You can get away with 35-40mph on the Dragon but most riders and drivers respect the road and usually keep to the posted 30mph... and yes a 180 switchback at 30mph will squeel the tires a bit and throw you around in the seat a bit. In the local paper someone dies on a bike out there quite frequently, id say at least once a month... more in the summer. 2 months ago a bike was leaving its lane and clipped 6 bikes killed 4 people!
There was some talk a few years ago about shutting down the road once or twice a yaer, and letting people tackle the dragon one at a time with no speed limit enforced for the event... There was also going to be a "donation" of $250.00 to law enforcement and emergancy services, an insurance waiver, and a no-fault aggreement(in case you died and your family wanted to sue).... needless to say the idea never passed a council vote, and they lowered the speed limit from 45 to 30mph. Its ok though as there are enough drag strips in the area to keep anyone happy.
post more this weekend.
