Research the plan you have on line. If people are having problems getting warranty repair they will post it on line some where.
Some plans only allow you to get the work done from the selling dealer which can be a problem when you travel.

One way to think of "Extended Warranty Plans", is that you're pre-paying in effect for repairs you hope you never need.

Instead of ponying up for a longer loan payoff or another monthly payment.

Just take X dollars every month and put them into a savings account, or a cookie jar for use in the event of a catastrophic failure.

Okay, thanks everyone for the quick and helpful advice. Thank you silver fox, my head is now on straight! I did actually have to walk away from the contract reading and research to "restart my computer" as I call it.

The warranty is with National Warranty Corporation, local office is Eugene, OR. They do not have a good reputation online from what I've seen so far. I'm also uncomfortable with a lot of vague wording throughout the contract, and the price is too high for the length of coverage (4 yrs from last Friday).

A few things that bothered me:

We are 125 miles from the dealer we purchased from. They said we could bring the car to any dealer near us for warranty repairs. The contract says if the car breaks down more than 50 miles from the selling dealer "call the administrator for instructions."

"Any costs of teardown or diagnosis of components for inspection to repair or replace are your responsibility." No mention of them paying for these costs if they deem the repair covered.

There also seems to be a lot of time delays, waiting on their warranty investigators for each repair.

Under what is not covered, they mention modifications not performed by the manufacturer, damage to a covered part caused by a non-covered part, damage to a non-covered part when caused by a covered part...

It just all sounds a big headache to me. I thought since this is the nicest car we've ever had and I'm older now, I'd be responsible and get the extended warranty. Nah, sticking my gut (as advised here) and dumping it. We got the car for a good price and adding this didn't make it feel as good, so I'm going to go back to feeling good about our SS purchase.

Congrats on the new SS, I have loved mine. At 60 k with no issues, you made a good move to skip the warranty. Those companies make a ton of money and most are not the easiest to deal with. They put all the burden on you to prove you deserve to be covered on a particular expense and have lots of loopholes. The GM one would be the only one I would even consider, and honestly I have never needed one. Like others have said, put that amount of money in a savings account and you will have it if you need a major repair, and in your pocket when you don't.

Buying "warranty insurance" on any type of product/service is a personal choice. It really is a decision on a "feel good" product.

Saying that, I will also offer........

This topic has come up several times previously. A former member of this forum, who happened to be a Service Manager of a GM dealership, stated that, based on his experience, only 2 extended warranty polices were worth the money, if you choose to purchase one. The original GM Extended Warranty and another (the name escapes me). All the others were a considerable hassle and in many instances the dealership would not do business with the company. Thus, the vehicle owner was required to pay for the repairs and submit (and hassle/argue) the charges to the company.

Also remember....you purchased a 2009 vehicle with 25,500 miles so, depending on the ORIGINAL DATE OF FIRST OWNERSHIP, the GM Powertrain Warranty is still in effect until 5 years/100,000, which ever is sooner.

She/they apparently already have it, by the posts she made.........".......husbands comes back saying "awesome" alot". Guess on my part however.

Yes, we got the car a week ago today. We arranged everything on the phone and online app. We had to rent a car and drive 100+ mi, so it was around 5 pm by the time we got down there. The loan manager guy said he might be able to get us a better rate if I send him more info the next day. So I did, and it took him until yesterday to get back to me.

He said if we still weren't comfortable with the extended warranty, he'd re-write the loan without it. I left a message this morning asking him to do that.

So, yes we have the car. I have hardly driven it because I've been buried with work and actually got really sick last weekend. That's why my husband's been running around for me.

Snoopy, I was told there was no factory warranty since the car was 5 yrs old. I checked the carfax though and the first owner didn't purchase it until 8/2009. I left a message asking them to check on that for me. Thanks for that info, I didn't know it went from the purchase date.

Last car I bought was in 2001, I forgot how fun it is to deal with dealerships.
