The local dealer in Richmond, Ca has 08s on the lot but when I asked him about the SS all I got was "What's an SS?"

That's about what I got from my local Chevy salesman. At least he knew there was going to be an HHR SS, but that's only b/c I told him a couple of months ago. He still thought the engine was going to be the same 205HP supercharged from the Cobalt SS.

Honestly, we know more about it than they do, b/c WE CARE!

Yes, The SS may be due out by turn of the year, but as I said in my post......Kendall Chevrolet (my dealer) would not see any before spring of next year. They currently still have 20+ 2007 models on lot that they have to move before they even receive any 08s.
