If that's the case then I'll look to snag an SS panel in the future once they're lower in value.

Please note the use of the word "potential" not absolute.

Mailbu Maxx SS... sounds like a California Storm Trooper that digs surfing.

Forgot all about THAT SS, can't disagree on your statement.

Compared to 1991 to 1996 Caprices, the Impala usually holds a better price, but not straspheric. D Give it ten more years when the herd starts to thin out, and it MAy see a rebound.

Moonsign, I mean this sincerely, may your son-in-law always hold your kindness in high esteem, and treasure your love for him. May your gift always be bring a tear to his heart.

The HHR SS may develop a niche demand, but you never know with things like this. I'll keep my HHR SS and pass it on to my kids along with my Silverado and my Samurai, but if it ends up coming up in price as a premium but niche classic, it'll be their benefit.

The HHR is somewhat analogous to the Chevy Vega. Many figured that they were less than desirable as an economy car, but a some were lucky enough to keep their performance oriented, Twin Cam Cosworth Vegas around to yield a potential return.(Cosworth Vega? What the heck is that, right?). Those are fetching a pretty good price these days. The Vega panel never demanded the $$ like the Cosworths. Go figure. 35 years from now, people might faintly recall the HHR, but the SS may be special to collectors like the Cosworth Vega. About 3,500 were made between 1975 and 1976.

Good analogy. maybe it will come to pass.

I remember my friend had a Cosworth Vega. I was driving custom vans at the time. He had a sports car, and was bringing home pizzas. I was getting laid, and not coming home.

collectors

I happen to have owned a 76 Cosworth. I never bought it to sit in a garage, and eventually built it up with a sleeved block,Carrillo rods, 14to1 Venolia pistons and the factory short track cams. it was a blast to drive, and buried many a 'muscle car' in that state of tune. in the day, the firebird t/a's were about 1,000lb heavier (or more), and topped out at 175hp. even the corvettes were an embarrasment at that time. the HHR SS with the dealer installed power adder, at 295hp and Brembo brakes and big tires, is certainly a muscle car by any definition. how fast do you expect a muscle car to be? the HHR SS will run 13's. and pull cornering g's as high as most sports cars. My advice, drive em, and enjoy em, let the posers keep them in the garage under wraps.

You guys are wrong

As someone who's bought 15 new cars in the last 10 years--almost all limited production--I think you're wrong on value. Built in this low numbers, with this performance, in the retro style, I think they will hold their value quite well. But if you guys keep talking like they're some kind of disposable appliance, it won't help the situation.

Before I bought my new 2010, just a month ago, I looked at two used ones at local dealers. They wanted almost as much as I paid for mine new. So I think there's already evidence they will keep their value.

Anything that looks this cool, and goes this fast, and was built in these low numbers will retain it's value.

I'd like to know the total numbers of SS's made in '08, '09, and 10. Does anyone know this?

I'd also like to know the highest serial number for any 2010. Maybe we can figure out who has the last one made.

By the way, I sold my 2008 Dodge Viper with 600 hp, that I bought new, to buy the HHR. And I like the HHR better. Yeah, some of it is 'familiarity breeds contempt'. Even a Viper can get old. But the HHR is cooler in a lot of ways.

Have you ever heard the expression that it's a lot more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow? It's true.
