Shocks and Tires

I am in the market to finally swap the tires and the shocks since she's showing some wear. I was told by the dealership that SS struts and shocks are unique, yet try to find a set aftermarket that dont have the same part number as the LS or LT. In your travels is a SS shock unique and where can I find a set? The dealer wanted a kings ransom for OEM replacements. Wish I had the coin for pedders coil overs, not in the books just looking for good replacments.

Also the Mich-Pilot tires were ok, but anyone else like another brand and why? Thanks - Rob

For the struts/shocks on the SS, you are kinda "out of luck".... Although this thread just started about using Koni "Cobalt" pieces...... https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/brakes-%7C-suspension-%7C-shocks-%7C-struts-24/koni-struts-cobalt-fit-hhr-ss-36791/

The KYB/Monroe stuff is all FE3 2LT spec, which isn't bad, but not FE5

Tires.... Goodyear Eagle GT. They flat out work.....

Toyo- T1-R, Goodyear F-1, bridgestone potenza 760, Continental extreme contact DWS, all of thes I liked better than the Michelin.

the bridgestones hook up the best but they are summer tread and roll silent

The T-1r is great and expensive A/S
The Goodyear was awesome in the snow and cornered like they had carbon fiber sidewalls, oh yea they did.

The Continental was above average in all categories for the money a great tire.

I hear the Goodyear has changed the tread pattern I'll probably try them next.

Thanks guys - All the after market stuff is FE3 which isnt going to happen, interesting about the cobalt shocks I'll look into it - The pilots were ok, certainly not worth what they want for them.

gm put different part nums. for the same thing. they did it to me with the brakes. a-holes. my ss has cobalt part no brakes on it. the four door cobalt and hhr share platforms in entirety. ss to ss.
just for a joke call and ask for part nums. for brakes hhr then balt. then ask why the heck they have 2 part nums for the same damn part.
well... I guess it's not the parts guy doing it.

With the crap roads we have around here, FE3 shocks may not be a bad thing! There is a section of I-43 north of Milwaukee that will knock your teeth out!

I too bought a used set of FE5 Cobalt SS shocks and struts with 6,000 miles on them. Bolt right in.
