2009 SS. Block porosity issue. I think there's a way to run your VIN to see if yours is prone to this.

Fingers crossed it's the pump! Did some years have worse porosity than others? Almost all HHR blocks were gen2. Some were lucky and ended up with the sand cast from Europe.

There was only 1 or 2 years that had the TSB.

Correct Don, but I'm not sure if it was an actual GM TSB. I've seen it mentioned as being one but never seen a copy of it. The folks over at CobaltSS.com even talked about it but no one ever actually posted it up for all to see.
Now granted, I may have overlooked it or missed it somehow.

car is at the dealer so only time will tell. I really hope it's the water pump and not the block. Can't afford to replace the block at this point and trading is an option but definitely won't get what I owe on it. Which is 7k.

Anyone know if I trade without telling the dealer there is a problem if that will be an issue after the trade?

Evidently we were doing the same searches at the same time! AllData does not list one for 2009 or 2008.

However I did find a couple of others of interest; 1 involving the CAC tube coming loose causing Eng Pwr Reduced, and 1 about P0299 or P0234.

I found info on 2008 , 2009 2.0 engines with porosity issues.
At this age I doubt that's the issue.

The porosity issues I found were about oil coming out of an A/C mounting bolt, the cure is teflon tape on the bolt.

The LNF porosity we are talking about had to do with internal coolant leaks.
The poor block castings produced a weak spot between the cylinders that would crack and allow coolant to leak from the water jacket and drop into the oil pan.

I've read all I could find about this a few years ago. Seems the issue was addressed sometime in 2009 with an improved block casting. The problem affecting some 08's and 09's but not the 2010's. (from what I've read)

What Firemangeorge said. And Oldblue is right in that this problem usually presents itself much earlier in the life of the engine.

But then we have Mowgli's unfortunate experience here. At just over 100,000 miles, the block porosity rears it ugly head.

You can send chevy cust serv a PM with your VIN, see if they can help. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/priv...=newpm&u=24127
